I have converted a Canon New FD 500 mm/4.5 L super telephoto lens to Canon EF mount for the EOS cameras.
The lens arrived in the lens trunk, very impressive. It is huge - even compared with my own FD 300/2.8L.
The FD mount was broken somewhere - I did not dare to make test photos with that:
After the disassembly
I found the defect - a part on the inner tube was broken:
I repaired this the easy way - because this way was fast and without modification of other original parts of the lens - it is still possible to build the FD mount bck on the lens:
http://www.4photos.de/camera-diy/FD-Ersatzteil-Reparatur-.jpg
I made some parts myself for the iris control:
Furthermore I cleaned the iris:
And optimized a M42 adapter as the new mount:
I need three adapters - with the first I was not statisfied with the holes. The second one was good - apart from it was misaligned :-/
The third one was ok.
Here is a picture of the Canon FD 500/4.5L and my own FD 300/2.8L

And now some pictures made with that lens:
And here: http://www.4photos.de/camera-diy/Canon-FD500-EF-Bajonett.html on my website are more pictures and the German text. Probably I translate that later. _________________ Camera modification, repair and DIY - some links to look through: http://www.4photos.de/camera-diy/index-en.html

Yes, the camouflage is a bit disturbing.
The owner of the lens is natur photographer, I think for his subjects a white lens would be mire disturbing than that one. He has toke the camouflage foli on the backward part which I had to open.
I made my test images on the way to work - and had the camera with lens - or more exact the lens with the camera on it, in the hand, as I entered the office... _________________ Camera modification, repair and DIY - some links to look through: http://www.4photos.de/camera-diy/index-en.html
