Hey everyone
I was wondering how much the older black biotar from carl zeiss would run? I know its somewhat rarer than the chrome varient.

Thanks

alright well I'll toss this one up in the air...hopefully someone in this group can snatch it up if they so desire.

Click here to see on Ebay
I asked the seller a bit more on the lens...since it does show a scratch and he does mention that. I will be sure to post that if he happens to send something back.

Still it might be a good deal to someone out there. I wish I had the money to invest or the girlfriend that would truely understand, haha.

I found two examples of black Biotar 5,8cm with old SLR cameras:

Nr 3189313 (I hope, I'll grab it Smile )
http://allegro.pl/item277828236_stara_praktica_objektyw_zeissa_lustrzanka.html

Nr 3332409
http://allegro.pl/item279182388_praktiflex_zeiss_biotar_2_0_58_m42.html

The barrel looks like made from brass - not chrome or aluminium. Anybody know how old are these lenses?
I read that Biotar had been produced since 1936 till 1960. First version has barrel made probably from chrome (there are some black examples too) with focal length in cm; newer version was alu finished, with focal length in mm. Well, I'm not an expert in old lenses, but I love them and I want to learn more.

Yes I have one here too, not brilliant condition though, one amazing thing with this lens is the number of blades for such a small lens 17! the alu biotar has only 10 blades.

I wanted to buy rare black Biotar 5,8cm, but unfortunately I lost the auction. Now I have a chance to buy such lens for about 25 €. Lens is in the good condition, works properly. Is it worthwhile buying it for this price? I will have to borrow money from parents Neutral I spent my money to buy old Praktica with Tessar 5cm 1:3.5 (my example is older than Orio's).

This lens recommended for collection, not for every day usage.
Value is lot more than 25 EUR

I know :] I want to buy it for my pleasure and to use it sometimes. I already have Helios 44M-6 (optical copy of Biotar) for general use.

I'll pay about 72 € for all these purchases: Praktica, Tessar and Biotar. Tessar was produced around 1950, Biotar - around 1952 (I compared their serial numbers with copies which I know).

Tessar is quite common, Biotar is lot rare. You made a great deal!
