I would buy m42 50mm lens but I'm not sure which.
I'm interested in good color rendering and good bokeh

Since I spend less than 50 € I thought:
CZJ Tessar 50mm f2.8 (which version? which is MC? How is "zebra" version? There are many!)
Pancolar CZJ 50mm f1.8 (costs a bit more ...)
Pentacon 50mm f1.8

I do not understand what is the difference between Pancolar and Tessar!Crying or Very sad

I have a 58mm Helios 44m-7 is very good as made, so I'd like a lens of at least equal value!

what about? Rolling Eyes

I think all Tessar are good choice they don't have big difference.
I like Helios-44 also , my favorite is oldest silver M39.
Nikon 50mm f2 AI , pre-AI pretty unbeatable and fit into your budget.
Olympus OM 50mm f1.8
Konica 50mm any
Takumars any
Arsat 50mm f1.4

long list better to ask which 50mm is not recommended.

I do not recommend the Domiplan 50mm f2.8.

Buy some other adapters too , Olympus OM , Nikon, Contax/Yashica a must have one and enjoy cheap lenses from other makers too.

Yes from eastern factory, T* from western factory.

Really! I am very interested to Olympus OM fit!
I have see some adaptors, but I am hesitant!
Is suitable on my canon 450d without risk for the mirror?

PostPosted: Mon Jul 26, 2010 6:54 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

Meyer-Optik Oreston 50/1.8, Super Takumar 55/f2 (55/f1.8 is same as f2).

I don't have Canon experience , but I never heard about problem here. Hopefully Canon owners will confirm it.

Olympus OM is fine on a Canon DSLR.

As for the Tessars, it came in at least three SLR mounts:

1. M42 50/2.8 (cheap - should cost about £20.00)
2. Exakta 50/2.8 (cheaper - should cost about £10.00 but no infinity focus on a Canon DSLR)
3. Contax / Yashica T* 45/2.8 (expensive but superb, around £150.00 but won't fit on a full frame camera such as the 5D).

The Pancolor is a much better lens and is faster with a maximum aperture of f1.8, but is also more expensive.

From my experience I suggest:

Meyer Oreston 50mm f1.8
Mamiya 50mm f1.8 & 55mm f1.4
Helios 44-2 58mm f2

I am also sure there are other very nice lenses in M42 (like Pentax Takumar for example) but I have not used them

If yoy want to try other mount I strongly recommend any Olympus OM Zuiko you can find, especially the MC version of Zuiko 50mm f1.8 and the Zuiko 50mm f1.4

yes yes! I think that Pancolar is better than Tessar but is also much expensive!

I'm considering these 4 different version of tessar

I don't know of ANY lenses which hit the mirror on APS-C sized Canon cameras. The mirror interference issues are all with the full framers like the 5D.

I think the best cheap 50mm lenses are the Yashica ML 50mm lenses -f2, f1.9 or f1.7 - whichever you find the best deal on. My 50mm f2 was $7 and it is really good.

Most are OK, but as I mentioned before, Ricoh PK lenses have long bits sticking out of the back. Some will not even click into place on a crop sensor Canon Shocked

Takumar 55 1.8 is about as close to the Helios 44M-7 that I could get without breaking the bank. TBH. its going to be hard to match the Helios in an affordable price range I think.

Any Takumar, yes. 50-55/2's are still cheap.
Meyer Oreston 50/1.8, yes. Helios-44, sure.
Industar-50/3.5 is quite sharp. It's APO too.

I have many others, but those are the MF 50s I use most.

What do you mean... the Industar is an apochromatic design? Hard to believe.

The Yashinon DS 50mm/1.9 lens is cheap, sharp, and not radioactive.

50mm is the most debatable field...... you'll see.
BTW, saying best ECONOMIC, I vote Helios-44M even it's 58mm.
