Fooling around with the scanner again. I think the scans of black and white look better when they are larger than 900 pixels on a side.

Here are a couple of strips on a lightbox. It is sort of shocking to see black and white transparencies, rather than the usual color!

Snowfield Abstract
I really liked the tones here, and the balanced shapes.

Lake Ben Basin
Since there were a lot of tonal variations in this image, it was a good test for detail.

Another test for tonality.

Good rock detail. No sharpening, yet the detail still picks up nicely from the V700.

(I see that Photobucket will only resize to a maximum of 1024pixels on a side. Does anyone know how I might show the original larger sizes?)

Last one is ok, I think if it comes in color it will superb! In my opinion for good b&w like Simon did essentially need HDR or similar. Pure scanned B&W landscape is very boring to me. As you know I would want to be impolite, just I told you my feel. After tons of outstanding pictures from you these B&W I think not your way or need to use Simon's technics.

#3 for me.

In the Photobucket file size drop-down there is an option below 1024 x 768 for uploading 1 meg files - this may allow you to upload full size.

Point well taken my friend! I WANT honesty, that is how I learn to see. It's difficult to judge one's own work, and feedback is crucial to me.

I have to agree that these don't have the same snap as color images do. And, with the many black and white images I took, there are only very few that really give me a thrill, at least in the landscape venue.

This is probably mostly due to my lack of experience in black and white, and it is very humbling to see that I have a LONG way to go to make a landscape style image really work well in black and white.

I'm not sure who Simon is, could you link me to that work?

In the meantime, here's a quick scan of the color version of the river rocks, tell me how this looks. Better? Worse?

THANK YOU for the honest feedback! Cool
