A normal lens with unimpressive performance, it might be misaligned. But stopping down solves most of it.
The most interesting thing about it is how the aperture ring works.

Yes, I have one in Sears brand.
Unusual among SLR lenses of the era, a front cell focusing triplet.
I have gotten better results wide open though.
This was the cheapest kit lens supplied with the Ricoh TLS. _________________ I like Pentax DSLR's, Exaktas, M42 bodies of all kinds, strange and cheap Japanese lenses, and am dabbling in medium format/Speed Graphic work. |

I'm guessing it's better

Build quality is nice though. And the focusing ring is super smooth and well dampened. Makes me wonder what kind of grease they put in there |

I have been longing for such a lens for a long time. It is Cosina made. Yes, interesting aperture ring. What I found is: probably it can have the bubble bokeh effect, similar to that of a Meyer Trioplan 100mm f/2.8, more similar to Fuji 55mm f/2.2.

Picked up a new one branded Universar.
What I found unusual is that the bokeh shape is not like other triplets, and the focus plane is relatively flat. Sharp details can be found in the corners at 2.8 unlike on the Trioplan and Domiplan. It also has a halo effect or glow.

There is also a Vivitar version of the lens: https://www.pentaxforums.com/userreviews/vivitar-55mm-f28-auto.html I've also seen Porst and Revuenon. All of them probably made by Cosina. _________________ pentaxian |

Thanks. It is under other brand as well. From Flickr, a guy (who might also be a member here) said he put the lens focus to infinity and used a helicoid to focus, that gives the dramatic effect of bubble bokeh. |
