Click here to see on Ebay
By this my search for an utra-wide has ended. There is still a chance for me to buy a Oly 3.5/21 but I'm not sure if I'll need it. I'm not a architectural shooter so I can forgive the distortion and speed is good when shooting in small dark venues. I probably buy a speedlite for outside shooting environments as I've seen yesterday that even ISO3200 and f.1.8 can't save the day.

First of all, congratulations for getting Prakticar 20/2.8. Very Happy

To get infinity focus, sometime you have to take out
a plastic rear lens protector or shave the mirror if you are using 5D.
If you are using 350D, 400D or such there is no problem.

Thanks koji I was waiting for you Laughing
So shaving the mirror is a must now Smile

No, you do not need to shave for every Prakticar,
I mean that some of Prakticars need to take out its rear lens
plastic cover when you use 5D, but for some other Prakticars
you have to shave mirror of your 5D.

Unfortunately you may have to shave the mirror for Pr 20/2.8.

There is one other way to avoid mirror shaving, but you still have
to shave slighty the rear lens metal cover for Prakticar 20/2.8.
This is a solution ELEFOTO did for their EF-mounted Prakticar 20/2.8s,
I saw the modified lenses in Tokyo. They did it because they could not
sell their stock Prakticars 20/2.8s.

Crazzzzzyyy, $100 adapter! Is this chipped with infinity focus?

After reading some post on the web discussing Prakticar B on EOS body, would it be more economical to find a M42 version of the Flek, assuming IQ is similar. I have seen they go for less than USD250 to somewhere in the range of $350. I think they can still be had for in the lower $250 with some patience and snipping on the bay. Or go for the Flek 4/20 if speed is not a criteria and you can be assured to get infinity focus without all the fuss of adapter and shaving lens and mirror.

I am sorry if I spoiled your joy in any way. Having seen some images from the link you gave, the M42 2.8/20 produces beautiful pictures. I am pretty sure the Prakticar B version is more than capable of producing similar if not better images.

Looking forward to your experience with it and best wishes.

No it is 100$ without a chip: Click here to see on Ebay
I'm having mirror problems with 50mm lenses so mirror shaving was already in my todo list with the flek its priority become very high Smile
They say that the adapter is hand made so this is enough to produce costly adapter. I'll produce my own (have access to CNCs) so there is the probability to supply you guys cheaper adapters if the cost won't be too high Wink The same will be done for Rollei-QB and Exakta adapters. Yep I'm following the Zeiss glasses Very Happy
If there comes a demand for high quality C/Y adapters we can prepare a fasibility work on it too.

$100 adaptor is reasonable to me, you now can access all those nice
Prakticars which were almost forgotton and cheaply available on ePay.
(Sorry, these lenses are now rarely seen these days. Sad )
Due to difficulty to adapt them to EOS cameras, they are less expensive
than M42-equivalents, some others are not available in M42.

You can have 20/2.8*, 28/2.8, 50/1.4*, 50/1.8*, 55/2.8*, 80/1.8*, 135/2.8, 135/3.5*,
200/2.8, 300/4*, and 500/5.6. (*= CZJ made)

Prakticar 28/2.8, 28/2.4*, 55/2.8* macro, 200/2.8 sonnar are not in M42 mount,
and every one of them is nice too.

Good luck Yalcin and others. Very Happy

I'm looking for these locally right now Smile
And I have found a huge Hannimex 300/4,it looks cool I but have no idea about the image quality of it.

Generally I say stay away from brands like Hanimex, but in this speed perhaps provide acceptable quality at f5.6. What is not too bad!

Now adapters really cheap with a chip: Click here to see on Ebay. I ordered some and will let you know how they work soon. Did anyone tried Prakticars mirror-hit on CANON 5D MkII possibly?

PostPosted: Wed Jul 07, 2010 3:27 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

One note: Some of PB->EF adapter are too thick to attain infinity focus,
so that you may not have a problem of the lens hitting mirror for FF EOS
camera such as 5D (also likely 5DmkII too).

The reason why I say so is this: PB mount register distance is 44.4 mm
so any adapter should have 0.4 mm thick base metal for EOS camera.
This is a bit hard for manufacture(s) to make since the product may not
have enough strength for bigger tele-photo lenses I guess.

However you cannot focus to infinity, but DoF may save your pictures.
For portraiture it may not matter too much, and also the longer the lens
less problem of hitting the mirror of your FF camera.

There is no problem for APS-C size sensor cameras, only the infinity
focus problem may exist due to thickness of adapter you get/have.
