Good evening, colleagues!
I apologize for my long absence... In the last weeks I haven't much free time (to visit our Forum). I am studying chemistry of environment and now I'm doing the research in order to write a Master's dissertation (I don't know is it a correct phrase).
As you know, I love old lenses. Some time ago, I was trying to buy the CZJ Sonnar 8.5cm/2 in Internet auction - but the final price was too high for me (over 100€). I know, it wasn't high price for this lens, but I hadn't enough money... But I found another interesting and very rare lens:

The price wasn't very high (~20 €), so I bought it. The lens arrived yesterday. Today morning I did a short test. First results are promising.

All photos at F/1.9:

Lancer:

100% crop:

Some autumn pictures:

Primoplan stopped down to F/4:

OOF highlights at F/4 (100% crop):

This is a rare valuable lens even if you got on nice price, I have it too with his ultra-rare 75mm brother. Nice samples! I love your posts, keep going!

#5 is a very interesting effect ! Well done.

I have this lens, I think it has an undeserved bad reputation. Herbert Keppler (famous editor of "Popular Photography" magazine) hated it.

I think it has great potential for pictorial photography, as you show so well.

Attila - if I had more free time... Very Happy
I've never seen 75mm Primoplan in Poland... and I've seen only two copies of 58mm version. One of them is in my hands now Smile

Luisalegria: thanks for your post! Reputation of this lens isn't very important for me. Important is to have a pleasure using it Smile

It's a lifetime that I'm looking for a 75mm Primoplan. I love the photos I saw from that lens.

I did read Keppler's opinion too but while I'm nowhere an expert as he was, my eyes told me a different history.

I used that lens in commercial photography too and I sincerely liked the results, both in colors and sharpness:

Herbert Kepler wasn't judge fine in this case in my opinion.

Laughing
On top of that, it's for rangefinder (I think)

Thanks for your opinions, guys!
Alessandro - great examples of using this ancient lens.
This morning I took some new pictures, using wide-open Primoplan. I think, now I can judge this lens. In my humble opinion:
- pretty good sharpness, even at F/1.9
- nice bokeh (subjective opinion)
- nice colours
- zero CA (!)
- contrast isn't bad excepting photos taken in low light conditions (last photo). Of course modern MC lenses are better in this respect.

I like the last one a great deal. I wonder if it would work as a B&W conversion...

Here you are! Maybe this B&W conversion isn't the best, I prefer the colour version.

I didn't know those were rare! It was Meyer's less espensive answer to the CZJ 58/2 Biogon, with 5 elements instead of 6 if I remember right. I had one on an Exakta V once, but don't have it any more.

Is it more rare in M42 than in Exakta mount?

I don't know , not common for sure.
