I have been looking on eBay at the various books by Hartmut Thiele. I notice there is a "Fabrikationsbuch photooptik Carl Zeiss Jena" issued in 2002, and a series of three books (photooptik I, II and III) published in 2020.

Does anyone know what extra information the 2020 books contain that one book expanded into three?

Regards, C.

Mr Thiele has done many more years of research and this lead to much detailed info in his later three book series! The former contained quite some gaps.

Aha, thank you. So if I decide to pick up the Carl Zeiss Jena information then I should get the three newer books in stead of the older one.

I have bookmarked my Hartmut Thiele search, this one to keep an eye on. Hoping that the Steinheil book makes an appearance at some point.

EDIT: Oh, and by the way. The amount of research that must have gone into all of this boggles the mind.

Regards, C.

Good decision! There is a STEINHEIL book out already by Mr Thiele which contains a heck of valuable information!

And there is that great but expensive book which I also have: https://www.amazon.de/Steinheil-M%C3%BCnchner-Optik-mit-Tradition/dp/3895061972

and here quite cheaper used: https://www.abebooks.com/Steinheil-M%C3%BCnchner-Optik-Tradition-1826-1939/31228618375/bd or within DE:

Unfortunately the Steinheil book is listed as sold out at Lindemanns. I did see that there is also a Meyer book. That might also be of interest to me.

I am sure you all are familiar with the phrase "going down a rabbit hole" Smile

You can also order directly from Hartmut Thiele and he will tell you about the latest version of the book you're looking for.

Where might I find his e-mail address? On the other hand, I am not sure I am comfortable about mailing him directly; he must get swamped by e-mails such as these.

His email: Thiele.Hartmut@t-online.de
He likes to be approached and sell his own books to interested people like us.
