Hello, I'm glad I received this beautiful piece of glass in P6 mount and wanted to share some samples with you.
It's autumn, yes, and I still have some roses...

Thank you Rolf.
These are 1200x800 pics and their resizement makes sharpness fall.
I would have better done by loading them directly in 900x600.

But if you click on them, you have a good idea of the quality.

Yes, this is a good lens and a pleasure to operate.
Look at the pictures taken with the sky beside. There's no fringing. I was quite surprised.

Cheers. Smile

Olivier,

I saw this "sharpness fall" too. Seems a problem with the forum software.
Yes, I clicked on the images, no. 14 for example is very well too.
Seems that the 6x6 lenses have less fringing problem. Found this at my P6 lenses too.

Did you get the lens from Ukraine or Russian or from a local dealer ? Original it was for the Kiev cam I believe.

I got it from Russia.
I edited and uploaded again with a size of 900x600, with less pics.
I find it's better.

Good samples. #8 is very Volna!

I had this lens and sold it about a year ago. Always wish I'd kept it.

There are two P6-mount standard lenses for the Kiev, the Volna and the Arsat; I wonder if there are some inherent differences between them.

Thanks to all.

Patrickh, you're welcome. I tried to show different aspects of this lens.
When I'll have some more time, I'll put some lenses' samples to the gallery. Wink

Poilu, I'd like very much to test this lens on a greek island... Cool

This lens is really good. I also like my copy a lot.
But still I am considering to sell it again. Because with the Nikkor 1.8/85 in my bag, the Volna doesn't see any usage often. It's a shame, really.

What I like the best about this Volna is that (apart from the good IQ) the focus really seems to snap in when you turn the ring! Shocked

Hi Olivier,

I was as impressed by this lense as you are. I put a number of pictures I took with it in the Oversized Gallery:

http://forum.mflenses.com/volna-3-and-nikon-d700-t17656.html

The colours are so incredibly saturated that I had to de-saturate some of the pictures. The sharpness is very good.

Congrats!

Thomas

Carsten, you shoudn't sell it. You will regret it in 1 or 2 years... Wink

Thomas, Shocked
Yes, your pictures are very saturated !
Very nice and special style pictures.
I do like when a lens gives us a "special touch". Very Happy

I happen to have a couple of Volna-3 lenses, part of a Kiev set I got a few years ago. Sadly, the set didn't get much use, perhaps five films went through it at most. I still have some pictures I took with the Kiev and these lenses, very, very sharp, and super saturated colours.

Today my adapter came and I could test the lenses with the 40D. here's a couple of images that I took tonight, 1:1 crop.

My apologies for the size, but this will get the point across, I think.

It surely made the point, Iko.

I think these Kiev-60 lenses are reallt good. Smile

Impressive, ikoflexer.
But could you please restrict the size of your photos to the regular maximum size or use the oversize category?
We had a long discussion on that and I think we do not need another one. Wink

Sorry again, I don't yet know the rules. They are much smaller now.

A few more shots to keep the fire burning. Nothing special, just some more tests. Another confirmation of saturated colours, nice bokeh, and not too shabby as far as sharpness goes.

Just ordered this lens today. Hope I get similar results with my 550D.

It should impress you. It is a really well-built lens.

I'm sure you will, Chris.
Do you have the adapter ?

Getting one soon. I saw a Pentacon 6 to EOS adapter from Fotodiox for $29. They have a store through Amazon and I've been very happy with the build quality from the adapters I've purchased from them. They feel very solid when attached to my retro lenses so I think I'm set there. My biggest concern is the size of the lens. Would it be about the size of say, my Jupiter-9?

I'm sure it is. The lens has a "wow" factor to it for sure. I'm just thrilled to see something in the 70-90 range that's affordable and really good quality. It seems the vintage portrait lenses have no price differential to their modern counterparts so it's nice to discover medium format as an alternative.

Quick question: Am I right in assuming that any medium format lens can be adapted to digital SLRs? It seems the lens to sensor distance for medium format is substantially longer than that of 35mm lenses. Anyway, just wondering.

Chris W

Here are 3 shots comparing sizes between Jupiter-9 and Volna-3.
As you can see, the adapter makes it much longer.

1- Left : Volna-3 and adapter under it ; right : Jupiter-9

2- Same but with adapter mounted on the Volna-3

3- Upside view
