Today, on a Dutch photo swap meet, I managed to buy a few nice M42 lenses to feed my "LBA". One of the lenses is a:
Kashimura Dianon 35mm f/2.8 (made in Japan)
In M42 mount (via a T2 adapter), with preset diaphragm. The diaphragm is perfectly round. A Google search on the lens and maker's name resulted in only a few links with information about 135mm and 200mm lenses from the same maker. Very little is known about this maker, so it seems.
Does anyone know more about the maker? I will post a picture of the lens later tonight.

Really a NICE looking lens. I LOVE these "no name" lenses, and I'm usually pleasantly surprised by some of them. I've always liked the pre-set lens types, they seem so....positive! _________________

I know what you mean...
In the meantime, I have found some information regarding the Kashimura name. It appears that Kashimura was a Japanese exporter of optical goods. Wikipedia link: http://www.camerapedia.org/wiki/Kashimura . This still does not tell me anything about the maker though |

Thank you for digging more into "Kashimura-Yoko" comany, and found out much more interesting things than this lens itself.
That "Yoko" means "Ocean going" in direct english translation, but it normally means "trading company". Anyway this company and some others were established under Japanese military at that era, in Shanghai "foreign resident area" in order to collect "information" in China and do bad things in that country. Basically speaking, "Kashimura-Yoko" is a branch office of Japanese spy agency.
Whatever, the lens (might be Tomioka made) is a very RARE specimen I guess.

VERY Interesting !
And thank you Koji !
I'm getting a Fujita 35mm, I will check against that when it comes in, but I doubt this is it. Its not a Tamron, its not a Komine. _________________ I like Pentax DSLR's, Exaktas, M42 bodies of all kinds, strange and cheap Japanese lenses, and am dabbling in medium format/Speed Graphic work. |
