Which Nikkor lenses on an EOS body?

Lately I've seen some rather interesting Nikon mount MF lenses for reasonable prices and I'd like to, eventually, try one or two of them.

But I'm not very sure which ones I could try on my 40D. I've done a search on the net but there still are some unclear points...

1 - Can all Nikon mount lenses (F-mount) be fit on EOS, through an apropriate adapter? I figure that AI and AI-S lenses can, but what about older non AI (and namely Nippon Kogaku 'branded' lenses)?

2 - Are there any problems using any of these lens types with a Canon EOS body (I've read somewhere that there might be a problem using the aperture ring of non AI lenses - but I'm not sure if it refers to Nikon bodies only) or all these types just work as a regular MF lens?

Thanks in advance.

Best regards

Pedro
I regularly use my nikons on my 40D and most recently I posted a sample of a 20/4 which is probably the most difficult to mount. They all work fine

Both my Nikkors are Nippon Kogaku lenses. 50/1.4 and 24/2.8
They both work fine.

As your 40D has a small mirror, there is no problem using any Nikon lens on it. On a full frame Canon camera like the 5D the lever on some Nikon lenses touches the mirror, but even this can be cured easily by filing the end of the lever.

The problem about pre AI Nikon lenses is when they are mounted on a modern Nikon camera! The problem is the way the aperture setting is communicated to the camera, but obviously when using a Canon camera this doesn't apply.

You're probably thinking of Nikon DSLRs. There are incompatibilities with some non-cpu lens (pre-Ai, PC, ...) and accessories. My D2H's manual lists a bunch.

Since Canons don't make use of any Nikon F mount features, I don't think there are issues aside from possible mirror clearance. I use 28/2.8 AIS, 50/1.4 AI and AIS, 85/1.8 AFD on a 5D without issues.

Thank you all!

I guess I'll have to buy another adapter... Smile
