I have a chance to purchase a Kiron 105/2.8 with 1:1 macro from a fellow in the camera club. He wants $100 for it.

I see decent reviews on it, and also Attila's gallery images from the Kiron look nice.

In anyone's opinion -- is it worth $100?

Thanks as always,

Larry

Don't walk - run after it. Check Screamin Scott's recent white haired critter for an example - he has the Lester Dine labeled version. This lens normally goes for way more than $100 and for good reason.

A fair price is easily twice that.
You should take it Larry for $100 and a deep smirk Wink
It is a 100mm 1:1 macro lens that lives in the same neighborhood as the Macroplanar 2.8/100.
Not the same house but just down the street for a tenth of the price.

Payed EUR200 for a good one recently!! Go run....
(Objection: Nowhere close to my Contax Makro Planar 2.8/100mm)

I hope you can run faster than me....had only I know your source. You have been getting marvelous offer for some really good glasses lately. As for this one, I hope you have already gotten it by the time you read this. It's a superb lens from what I have seen. I only have the 'bokina' Viv S1 90/2.5 which is also superb but not reputedly as good as the Kiron made 105s. This same one is also know with a lesser popular name - Vivitar 100mm Macro.

Excelent price.

Excelent lens.

Is the same lens that branded rolleinar, were in the rolleiflex SL system?

I think so.

Take it, somebody can do it before!!

Regards, Rino.

I can highly recommend it! It's super sharp, nice colors and well build. If you should pass it let me know and you have a buyer, I wouldn't mind a backup copy of this lens.

Flickr has a group dedicated to this amazing piece of glass

Excellent lens. Grab it for that price. Same lens sold as Vivitar and Lester Dine Dental lens.

Half the photos in my bug gallery where shot with one of those lenses.

THANKS you guys! I'm CONVINCED, okay? Cool Very Happy

I leave for 9 days in the mountains, out of touch with electronic communication, tomorrow afternoon.

He is holding it for me, and I will pick it up after I get back. I sort of wanted to use it for this hike, but he's too far away for me to get it right now.

I am anticipating that this should be a good lens indeed!

THANKS for ALL your advice and encouragement!

Larry

Larry...If you get that lens, and if it happens to be for Nikon in AI, and if you don't want it, I'll gladly trade you some of my Olympus equipment for it...That way, you can't lose.

If you don't like it, please let me know or you can sell it to me with your profit. Laughing

The price is as good for the man who search the great macro lens. You won't disappoint with it. The price can reach 300USD in Ebay especially Nikon mount.

I'm sure it's the good gear for you.
