Yesterday arrived my Nokton for the Voigtländer Prominent. In the evening I made some quick samples.

The lens performence is outstanding. It seems to me, the strongest point is the wide open performance at the borders.

The bokeh wide open looks like the Helios 40. It is the same circulation and this oval formed out of focus high lights.

In the next days, I will make some comparisons with the Zeiss Planar on Kodak slide film.

Bokeh @ f1,5

performence wide open @ f1.5
scan 2700dpi, (10 MP), no sharpening

100% center crop

100% left boder crop

Congratulations on your new lens! Interesting comparison with the Helios-40. Can you post some head t head samples from both lenses when you have a chance?

Thanks in advance.

After the first film, I had the impression that the Nokton from the fifties wide open better performed, than my new Zeiss planar T* 1,4/50 ZS.

Now, I have put the rangefinder Nokton on my SD14 and made a macro comparison on the tripod with the Zeiss Planar ZS.

No post processing, no contrast or sharpening action with the same WB.

Here the result:

Voigtländer Nokton 1,5/50 @f1.5

Nokton 100% crop

Zeiss Planar 1,4/50 T* ZS @ f1.4

Zeiss 100% crop

The Voigtländer Prominent has a leafs shutter, so registration distance is quite long for a rangefinder.
I could use the lens on my Sigma SD14 in a short distance. The results are very pleasing. The lens is great performer with high contrast and sharpness.

#2 f2.8

Congratulations! WOW! How nice, nice, nice!

The images I know, weren't supposed to be for "beauty" shots, rather for "test" shots. However, because the Nokton produces such a rich image in many ways, the shots become outstanding just because the lens is so outstanding!

FINE work. And a FABULOUS acquisition. It looks like there are subtle characteristics where each lens can outshine the other. This is WONDERFUL, as you will be able to utilize the attributes of BOTH lenses to produce outstanding images!

The best of both worlds! The world of Voigtlaender-Nokton, and the world of Zeiss-Planar!

Larry

To Ingo or Anyone Who Might Know:

I have had my eyes on the Voigtlander Nokton 58/1.4 for some time; does anyone have any experience with this lens. Is it equal to the Nokton 1.5 in sharpness and bokeh?

I went back and looked AGAIN, Ingo! All I can say is you've dropped my jaw to the floor! Very Happy
