Alright from what i can guess the Rokkor-X MC is what I'm looking for...?
But I found some other ones at my local photog shop which is still a MC Rokkor-PG or PF, can I do the same MOD trick with the M43 to EF like the Rokkor-X Modders do?
Confusing I know...
My current setup is a Canon 20d with M42 to EF/EOS and I have a wonderful Super-Multi-Coated Takumar 1:2.5/135
http://www.flickr.com/photos/solizphotography/2090080790/
But now I want to try the Rokkor's and purchase the black M42 adapters for the conversion process... but I have no lenses to work with.
So does it have to be a specific Rokkor-? MC lens?
Thank you!!! any help is much appreciated.

Hi Razster, I'm not sure exactly what you want to know, but Rokkor MC or MD lenses can't be used on Canon EOS cameras unless you only want to do macros shots. They will not focus at infinity because the lens needs to be closer to the sensor than the Canon mount allows. Currently the only DSLR cameras you can use with MC or MD lenses are the Olympus 4/3 system. _________________ Peter - Moderator |

From what I've heard you can reach infinity with a little grinding of the shime, I asked the people on http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/665328 about it - but no response, so I figured I would ask here since I follow this forum.
So I'm only looking for MD and MC? Does it matter the name Rokkor-? (e.g. X, PD, PF, PG)
Here is how, but they do not explain which Lenses are able to be converted

MC & MD is the Minolta mount, not the name of the lens. As far as I know, all Rokkor lenses were built for the MC or MD mount.
Sorry, I don't approve of grinding down and permanently ruining lenses to fit cameras they weren't designed for. Why don't you get some great Zeiss, Pentax, Olympus or Nikkor lenses instead? Then all you'll need is an adapter. _________________ Peter - Moderator |

I agree with peterqd. Unfortunately this fashion will probably destroy the 58mm f1.2 Rokkor and in the future the whole Minolta family. Why don't you modify your Canon flange to only accept Rokkor glass? You can find more
info in http://digitalrokkor.altervista.org/techdetails.html
P.S.
Don't want to be rude, I only want to express my concerns for the Minolta family. _________________ Minolta x500, x700 and Olympus E-510 and many manual lenses

That's a great idea! Who cares about the camera?
I don't think you can lock the lenses with this new mount. _________________ Peter - Moderator |

I know, I felt bad when I thought about CCN a lens to make it fit my adapter... but I might try and modify my other Canon to accept a flange.
By the way - What Adapters would I need to search for to host a Oly Lens or a Nikkor? I would love to try those too! I don't know much about the mounts, so if you could give specific. It will wing me away from the Rokkor's |

There are others too, which use an optical element and can achieve infinity

Yes, it would "work", but it has an extra lens (usually quite poor quality) to compensate for the difference in register distance. Not recommended - often a waste of money if you want to take good pictures. _________________ Peter - Moderator |

Probably it is true. I have heard that such adapters have poor quality for Canon FD lenses. _________________ Minolta x500, x700 and Olympus E-510 and many manual lenses

I also hope it works! Which lenses are you willing to buy?

My friend has a Rokkor-X MC 58mm which he would not let me tear apart, but since I can do the whole flange thing I'm sure he will let me use it when I want too.
I found a large selection on Ebay for $40 to 50.00USD. |

Yes Razster, only certain kinds of Rokkor lenses are "convertable". The easiest ones to modify are
MC Rokkor-PF 58/1.4, MC Rokkor-PG 58/1.2, and MC TELE_Rokkor-PF 135/2.8. Yes MC Rokkor-PF
85/1.7 can be converted too with some effort. Some are too difficult to modify such as MC Rokkor-PG
58/1.4 and MD Rokkor 45/2, the both are very fine lenses.
When Leica and Minolta went honeymoon. leica's lens design team liked the drawing of Rokkor-PG 58/1.4
notably bokeh in today's terminology they designed the first Sumilux-R 50/1.4 which was very famous to
have a nice bokeh which are also apparent to its successor Sumilux-R 50/1.4 (E55).
Yes I converted some of Rokkor lenses to EF-mount, and feel guilty for it. However so many Rokkor 50-sh
lenses were made to date, some conversions will not hurt the industrial stock of Minolta lenses I think.
Anyhow I stop doing it, some of my doing is here> http://www.pbase.com/kkawakami/mctoef_mount_conversion
the end
One more thing, EF-mounted Rokkor-PG 58/1.2 and -PF 58/1.4 will need EOS_5D's mirror must be shaved
otherwise the mirror rests on the rear of the lens after shooting. Yes these lenses have no problem with APS-C
size sensor Canon bodies. _________________ Our Home Page has 18,200 photos in 575 directories today.

Screw positions are the key in the modification of the lenses, my 2 Minolta MD's are can't be modified because of the different form of their back design and no screw holes at the back.
Rokkor-X PG 50/1.4
Vivitar 28/2

And for the flanges is 62€ worth? _________________ My name is "Yalcin", and exactly "Yalçın" and here you can find my MF samples:

Right now switching back to AF because of work needs but I still love the MF lenses |

Well since it is 84 USD, I don't think it is, but I saved up some money for playing around. My change helped pay for this new flange that I hope will be here this coming week
I have a test camera as well as a nice clean Rokkor my friend will let me borrow. I have found more photos taken with the Rokkor-X 50 1.4 and I'm excited. Plus I have my CZ Jena on the way... YAY! |

I don't think that Rokkor-PG 58/1.4 exists. Only Rokkor-PG 50/1.4 and Rokkor-PF 58/1.4. Probably you mean Rokkor-PG 50/1.4. _________________ Minolta x500, x700 and Olympus E-510 and many manual lenses
