Just arrived
It is very similar to the newer version, but this one is way bigger (and almost twice as heavy). For comparision (SMC 35/3.5, SMC 35/2, Super Takumar 35/2 PRO, Auto Takumar 35/2.3):
It's quite good lens, results are very similar to SMC 35/2, but CA seems to be lower. It's quite rainy today, so I can't compare them exactly - waiting for better weather
Here is one sample through window (rain, f/9). |

I do not own too many Takumars, but I know where to find them.

The right side of the above page is directory of each takumar's description page,
at the end of those pages there are another pointers to sample image (mostly only one
unfortunately). The left side of the above page has many pointers, one of them called
"The Lens Design Room" is interesting, the author is a lens affectionardo indeed.
There used to be english version available, I could not find it this time.
Enjoy the new toy! _________________ Our Home Page has 18,200 photos in 575 directories today.

As I understand it the 58mm version is the earlier version - later the lens was redesigned to be a 49mm version. I am not sure if there are performance differences. From memoery at least some other lenses went thru a similar transition when AOC settled on 49mm as the standard filter size for its range fo leneses. I think (and here I am working purely from memory) the 28mm f3.5 also reduced to 49mm but the 24mm f3.5 never did. In general I have enormous respect for the Asahi takumar lenses which perform superbly and are built brilliantly too. _________________ PeterM |

In fact, the older (PRO) version has 67mm filter thread. Their results are different - the most visible difference is CA. The newer one aberrates significantly (maybe thoriated glass of the newer design would require slightly different correction?). _________________ (almost) complete list of Helios lenses |
