Looking for a macro lens shorter/wider than 50mm

I find myself needing a macro / close focusing lens that is shorter/wider than 50mm.

Let me explain.
For digitizing slides and/or negative film I have a Nikon ES-2 attachment that screws onto the front of a lens. Simple perhaps, but it works quite well for me. The drawback is my M4/3 camera; only time so far that having a crop sensor is inconvenient. When I use my Olympus OM 50mm 3.5 lens I have to leave off the macro rings and add a bunch of extension tubes between the lens and the ES-2 attachment in order to capture the entire frame.

So, short of getting a full frame camera just for this purpose, I think I am looking for a lens shorter than 50mm, sufficiently close focusing and with a flat field. And not outrageously expensive such as the OM 20mm or 38mm macro (with these it would be cheaper to get a used FF camera).

Any suggestions? With a few exceptions I can adapt pretty much anything.

Regards, C.

What about a Leitz Focotar 40 mm f/2.8? It‘s a high quality lens and appears for what I consider reasonable prices regularly.

That thread is a wealth of information. Thank you!

Using m43 camera presents some additional factors such as 2:1 magnification requirement & the 3:2 to 4:3 dimensional problem.

Stumble onto this article, which uses your equipment(!):

If the image circle is big enough; it was designed for 16mm film which is still quite a bit smaller than M4/3.

How about a 24~25~28mm-ish lens that has a flat field, with macro ring(s)? Could that work? In tests I have done I can see that a lens around 24mm or so will cover the slide or negative on the ES-2 without requiring extension tubes. The concern I have is that lenses around that size might have all kinds of distortions.

Sigma 24mm F2.8 Super Wide II Macro

https://allphotolenses.com/lenses/item/c_2575.html

Its closest focusing distance is 18 cm only. The lens allows you to take 1:4 MACRO pictures. (c)

For the 4/3 system I believe it will be 1:2 MACRO

Sony A-290 f/5,6

Yes older lenses wider than 28mm tend to be rather poor, by modern standards, although the macros, if there are any would be better.

I would try a sharp m42 like the S-M-C Takumar 28mm 1:3.5 on extension tubes. No need to worry about corner performance on m43.

That's a coincidence, I was just watching a video where someone was comparing six 28mm 3.5's. And the Pentax came out very well in that test.

Not with every matrix that lens would perform well. Due to the small diameter of its back lens.

For example:

I once put a diopter on mine for close up (extension rings will get a lot closer) This is a m43 cut out from it since I use full frame.

I like the 35mm Oly Macro for original 4/3s. Inexpensive, just need the 4/3 to m4/3 adapter; for infrequent use the mmf or lumix might be best but the cheaper “aftermarket” adapters might be ok.

What focal length do you get with such a setup?

The site is mentioned before in this thread, the lens test results at 0.5 magnification suit your task the best. No short focal macro lenses in that 0.5x list. Consider what can be done with bellows at the front side. Make sure rigidity is good and internal reflections are low. The Nikon slide holder may not be your best option for this task.
