According to https://takumarguide.weebly.com/1--56--200-347.html both version have identical optics with different mechanics.

Not noted in any of the online sources I know about is the fact the earlier 8-blade aperture has a different position further back, between different elements, than the later 10-blade aperture.

My question is how does the position of the aperture iris affect performance? I think both sharpness and bokeh will be different. Aberrations may be better corrected with front aperture, yes?

#3 The early version is a few mm shorter; later version front element is recessed a few mm to keep the same optical scheme. Both front elements have the same 9 diopter curvature.

The proof is in the pudding. You should be able to test them? Wink

I'll have a taste later Smile ...but first...

Another body suggested internal spacing change to accommodate aperture position change. I see a slightly different second element "dome". May be different internal optics. Need to partially disassemble both lenses to check... Right now other Springtime tasks (such as making photos Smile) have precedence...
