Hi, I've just bought a Vivitar 35-105 f3.5 lens for my Canon film gear but I can't find out why on this version, the aperture settings are duplicated? When mounted on the camera, the aperture ring will not rotate past f3.5 to the orange/white settings.
Any ideas?
Thanks, Richard |

May be best to publish an image of your lens so that we can see which version it is!

That two way aperture for automatic and manual is typical of Cosina. In that case the serial number should start with 09 or 9. Can't find anything about a Cosina Vivitar 35-105 though. There are very many Tokina Vivitars in that focal range. Their serial number starts with 37.
I guess the green F-numbers are for automatic aperture stop down, and the other ones for manual stop down. I am not familiar with Canon but I guess a camera setting may be blocking manual stop down. _________________ pentaxian |

This type of lens could be adapted to various cameras thanks to the interchangeable mount (TX if I remember correctly). Since there are cameras in which the direction of aperture rotation from maximum to minimum aperture is opposite to others, the lens was prepared for both possibilities. In my opinion, however, it is a Tokina. |

Thanks for the replys.
I can confirm it is a Tokina lens and that the green aperture scale is for use on Canon SLR's.
Cheers |
