This projection lens with a pretty large convex front glass left almost no traces in the internet until now.

The rendering, as well as its physical aspect, recalls quite a bit Mir-1 2.8/37, I wonder if optical formulas are similar. Otherwise the Benoist Berthiot is less sharp in the center, being more "airy" and even "dreamy".

Some shots make it question about the field curvature of the lens which seems to be irregular, going not only from frame center to the edges but somehow also in the mid frame. The shot #4 illustrates it in a patent way, with an eccentric and patchy pattern of sharpness and OOF spots.

The following shots at various distances are taken with Sony Nex and my WC-adapter, colours and contrasts corrected.

The color rendering seems some what similar to my anguniux 35/2.5.

Definitely has that dreamy feel and flare that is popular with certain cinematographers right now.

Friends

It definitely has a moderate mild glow which remains visible in BW too and gives a special "lo-fi" look.
