Nik Software has released a plugin for PS (or Aperture) that makes digital B/W conversion much more interesting. It has several conversion modes, such as Push, Pull, Over/Underexposure, Holga, Sepia, IR, Color filters (yellow, green, red, orange), etc. etc. Also interesting is that you can add film specific grain (Ilford HP5+, Fuji Neopan 1600, ...).

Some information:

Especially the last link is worth reading for some good examples.

I'm interested in this type of software. I use a free package, Virtual Photographer, that does a lot along these lines, only it doesn't name film names... and I have the suspicion that the $$ software does something better. $200 for the nik converter is a bit steep... I'd rather spend it on lenses or a couple of nice folders myself.

There also is a trial version available. But yes, US$200 is not exactly cheap.

I recently visited a friend in Milan and went to Lake Como. It was not a photographically inspired trip, and due to my dSLR failing on me in Milan I even had to use my girlfriend's digital compact to make pictures there. I made several B/W conversions using this plugin and put them on my zenfolio website.
