I was actually quite surprised when I tried this lens for the first time.
I also own the Zeiss Biometar 80/2.8 (Zebra one, circa 1970) in P6 mount, and I very much prefer Volna-3, at least for the portraiture. Its sharpness is on par with Zeiss (IIRC the third photo above is taken wide open, all others are at f/4.0), but the rendering is much nicer - it's a Planar after all.
