trioplan or domiplan?

The Meyer Optik made from 1952 till 1960 the 3 elements 50 mm lens trioplan with f/2,9.
Since 1961 the trioplan was discontinued and replaced? by the 3 elements domiplan with F/2,8

Well, the rendering of both lenses in the net's pics are similar, not the same.

Any experience with both lenses?

The Domiplan can be good but usually isn't. Very poor build quality. Mainly due to the fact it's automatic aperture mechanism sucks. Also the rear element is needlessly held in place with three tiny screws and it is often off center, making the lens even softer. Another Alternative would be the E. Ludwig Meritar 50mm 1:2.9, but those usually come in Exakta mount.

Thank you, D1NO.

The Meritar seems to has very similar rendering to the trioplan. Or I'm wrong?

They are all pretty similar in rendering I guess, being simple triplet designs. There are more Here a thread: http://forum.mflenses.com/cooke-triplet-thread-normal-lenses-from-40mm-to-50mm-t74791.html

I have both. Here is a side by side:

#1 Trioplan

#2 Domiplan Q1

Slightly different bokeh shape.

Thanks.

Nice comparison .

The Trioplan seems to have more contrast and a bit more sharpness to my eyes.

Perhaps a copies difference no more.

I've had a few of each and a Meritar. My Trioplan is excellent. I had a second one which was equal that I sold to a friend. I did get one other Trioplan that had a problem on the lens surface. It only took me two tries to get a good Domiplan and I only bought them because they were dirt cheap and as a Meyer fan, I was curious to try. I have a third in Exacta mount. Although good, it does not compare well to Trioplan. I will mention that my Trioplan is from an Altix and I suspect they may have been made a little better. The Meritar I have has considerable haze but I have not seen much sharpness in it.
