Hi i realised that i have the following lens along with some others from my enlarger machine.
I recently got a Z6 II and i was wondering on how i can use them on it.
From my understanding this lens has M39 mount.

the photos are not the actual lens but some i found on the internet. It's the same lens though.
So what i think is correct to do is to buy an M42- to z mount helicoid and then an M42-M39 ring.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/M42-screw-mount-lens-to-Nikon-Z-camera-adapter-macro-focusing-helicoid-Z6-Z7-Z5/154070560316?hash=item23df522e3c:g:IEYAAOSwKptcsF1y

Apologies but i am not sure how to post correctly the ebay link.
Is my thinking correct? Should i be scared about the extruding element?
Let me know what you think! |

It looks like the right adapters. But what focus range you will get I don't know. You might need a longer or shorter helicoid depending on the lens. You can hold a piece of paper behind the lens to see the distances.
My enlarging lenses needs different setups to reach infinity etc.
The rear element should not be a problem unless you use a helicoid that is too short. |

That should get you most of the way there. Depending on what working distance you plan to shoot you will probably need some extension tubes. Those helicoid adapter are great but the focal distance differential are generally not great. I bought some 5 dollar chinese ones but the internal reflections can be a problem, especially on lenses being used "off label" like this. Get some vintage ones for 15 bucks or so, you will get much better results. _________________ photos are moments frozen in time |

I went on about my love for the lens, but not on the mounting specifics you asked for...
The lens mounting plane is very near the optical center of the lens, so you can use physical extensions to calculate magnification.
The Z-mount register is only 16mm.
The helicoid you linked to adjusts from 29mm to 65mm.
So the minimum extension is 45mm, and maximum is 81mm.
45mm is not long enough to get to infinity focus, so you might consider adding a fixed extension to give you more focus adjustment range. Most M42 extension sets come with 7mm, 14mm, and 28mm extensions. If you install the 14mm, you'll be very close to infinity focus (59mm vs 60mm) so that's what I'd recommend. Then at maximum helicoid extension you'll have 95mm total, which will give you 0.58:1 magnification, which is just about right for shooting a US Dollar. _________________ ...See my Numismatic Photography website at: http://www.macrocoins.com

Weird, I know, but in fact it gives a superb rendition of the coin. Perhaps I'll post a pic of a coin taken with both. _________________ ...See my Numismatic Photography website at: http://www.macrocoins.com

OK, here is a 1954-S RPM#1 Lincoln Wheat Cent, shot with both the 60WAC and the 85MV. Outwardly the images appear very similar, and indeed the differences are subtle. The main issue is the shorter focal length of the 60WAC gives a more pleasing perspective, and allows the lights to give a more uniform illumination. The 60WAC is not as sharp as the 85MV, but is plenty sharp for full-coin use. Color rendering is also quite different, with the 60WAC giving a more uniform golden color, and the 85MV giving more color gradations. This is odd since both are shot at the same aperture setting (f5.6), so should give similar color rendition, but the lighting differences are probably causing an interaction with the aperture.
