Berthiot perigraphe 14/90mm_test on D700 & Nex

I find an easy way to mount this lens on DSLR simply via a P6 mount and some macro rings ! so let see what this beautiful oldy french lens can produce on modern cam ....It's more for the fun of course, it's very slow (f14) and quite difficult to use without flash, can flare easily with direct sun light but with good light condition, it can still provide some nice results, I especially like the colours rendering....

This is indeed a very fine lens.

For the day it was an extreme wide angle.

The 90mm is supposed to cover 5x7 - 12x17 cm

In 5x7 format its like an 18mm in 35mm

Wow, great idea using the P6 adapter! I usually love the photos made with old French lenses, and I'm not sure why. It is too subtle for me to analyze. And so, as usual, I find your photos quite lovely. Thanks for sharing.

A couple of years ago I came across a 60/14 Perigraphe and had a Charlie Barringer moment. For those of you who don't know who Charlie was, he was a fanatic collector, one of the founders of Zeiss Historica, and co-author of the Zeiss-Ikon Compendium. Westlicht sold his Super-Q Gigantar and "Barry Lyndon lens" last year. Every so often he ran across items that he just had to have and couldn't rest until he'd bought them. So it was with me and my little 60/14 Perigraphe.

Henri Gaud has posted a page from a 1912 Établissements Phillipe Tiranty catalogue -- http://trichromie.free.fr/trichromie/index.php?post/2011/01/27/PERIGRAPHE -- listing f/14 and f/6.8 Lacour-Berthiot Périgraphes. It says that both are convertible, claims that the f/14s cover 115º and the f/6.8s cover 95º. f/14s were offered in focal lengths of 45, 60, 75, 90, 120, 135, 150, 200, 250, 300, 350, 400, 450, and 500 mm. Recommended formats at f/25 are consistently between 100º and 110º without movements. If I ever come across a 45/14 Périgraphe I may have another Charlie moment.

The 1912 coverage estimates may be inflated. An undated SOM Berthiot catalog published between the wars (see http://www.collection-appareils.fr/accesnotices/html/lire_repertoire?repert=som_berthiot&marque=Som%20berthiot&modele=Catalogue&PHPSESSID=333965b3c0b5e4652c9d3802b532215d ) says that f/14 Périgraphes cover 106°, illuminate 112°. I have a SOM Berthiot brochure from, probably, the late 1940s that claims 100° for the 90/14 Périgraphe VIa and doesn’t mention convertibility; in it SOM Berthiot’s convertible Dagor type is the Eurygraphe. Georges Laloire has sent me undated data from Berthiot, probably published between the wars, that also claims 100° for f/14 Périgraphes. Coverage is a sometime thing.\

I've had little experience with f/18 Protars, have tried only Charlie's 62/18. I think my 60/14 Perigraphe is better but most of the large format community prefers f/18 Protars to f/14 Perigraphes.

Pascal's 90 isn't that old, it was made in the early 1930s. Perigraphes (f/6.8 and f/14) were made as recently as the early 1950s.
