Taken 21-Jan-2019 5:41h CET with Tamron SP 8/500mm + Zeiss 2x converter on Panasonic GH4



Got rather noisy as I had to raise ISO quite a bit, f16 certainly not being at help... Wink

I used two lenses to capture this, the Tele-Tokina 800mm/8 and the Jupiter 6-2 180mm/2.8
Unfortunately the circumstances changed rather quickly and dramatically during the eclipse and by the time it was full, I had to deal with ground fog that took away the light.
I even changed my location (away from the lake shore) to avoid the fog but it quickly catched up with me.
However I still was very happy with the end result, so I'm content to wait for 2025 to get the next one....Cool

Wow marcel. The ultimate preset t-mount lens the 800mm tokina. I just sold a 600mm before xmas, but I have pretty much never seen the 800mm. One day..
Good results there Like 1 small

I was in the garden at 5am gmt trying to use my recently acquired pentax 150-450mm + sigma apo 1.4x tc (so no af - wouldn't have been enough light for af anyway). Clearly the trick is to get focus while there is a good bit of moon to see and focus on. I was trying to shoot - review on lcd - microadjust but didn't get anything sharp - lots of orange blobs. I was wondering too if a 1 sec shutter was too slow too to prevent motion blur from the moons motion across the sky.
Should have done some homework beforehand...

Yep, at those long focal lengths, the moon moves rather quickly thgrough the viewfinder and I had to re-adjust the positions constantly, as I have no telescope terrestrial mount!!

One second is certainly waaay too long so what you got is lots of motion blur!

Honestly, I just found those, I have tried by trial and error and ended up at about 1/4 - 1/6 seconds and ISO1600
to get rid of motion blur as I had 1000mm focal length in use.

I was on 1 or 2 secs, pretty much in the right ballpark based on those calculators for exposure, but as you said, should have been around 1/5th for motion prevent.
If I had looked into it more I would have figured out the astrotracer that - just realised - I have built in to my K3-II !!
