Used on Panasonic GH4 full open...
Great sharpness, colors and contrast, wonderful BG separation, quite easy to
focus, little CA, quite controlled, disappears quickly when stopped down.

I have three CZJ Sonnar 180mm F2.8, two with zebra and one with knurled focus ring. All very good lenses.
As far as I know, ALL CZJ Sonnar are P6, but many were sold with a P6 to M42 or P6 to Exakta adapter. The original adapters have the same finish of the lens, so you are easily led to think they are integral to the lens. However, if you manage to remove the adapter, you'll see the P6 bayonet mount. _________________ If raindrops were perfect lenses, the rainbow did not exist. |

Trust me Gerald, I checked my lens, it was originally made with M42
mount and there is NO P6 mount underneath, nor an adapter _________________ Klaus - Admin

The CZJ Sonnar is a large and hefty lens, so it is very cumbersone and front-heavy on a 35mm camera. On the other hand, it balances well and really shines on a Pentacon Six, where it is FF equivalent to a 100mm F1.4 lens. Wonderful lens for portraiture.

Yes, it is quite some lens, but I'm now used to large and hefty lenses, 3-4.000 grams each, so compared to that, the Sonnar 180mm is not that large and heavy and much easier to focus than a f1.4 projection lens

I trust you, Klaus, but I confess I've never seen a CZJ Sonnar 180mm with a non-adapted M42 mount.
Maybe because I'm in the wrong side of the world...

I re-checked it Gerald and duuhh, it is a 2.8/200mm Sonnar electric, sorry my bad.
Corrected th title line. |
Is the 200 lighter than the 180? I am asking because I was just holding a 200 and it seemed lighter than
a 180 I held some weeks ago. In other words the 180 seemed too heavy, but the 200 did not seem bad for a 200.
Or are there 200 Sonnars that open less wide?
Whew....glad I got that question out. |

Klaus, both are very good lenses, but in my opinion the Sonnar 200mm is better.

Hmmm. ... that doesn't jibe with the knowledge "If raindrops were perfect lenses, the rainbow did not exist." We are all on the same side of the world -- the surface! |
Photographic equipment has always been expensive and scarce here. You Californians live in a paradise.
By the way, I have a daughter who lives in Pleasanton, CA.

Yes, the Sonnar 200mm F2.8 is considerably lighter than the Sonnar 180mm. Nonetheless, the Sonnar 200mm is a heavy lens in my opinion. _________________ If raindrops were perfect lenses, the rainbow did not exist. |
