Maybe for adapting one M42-Lens over another 58mm-Filter-Thread-Lens?
There are no moveable parts.

Are you sure it's 58mm and not 57mm thread?

If it's 57mm it might be some kind of adapter for Bronica cameras, they have 57mm threads besides the bayonet mount.
