Hi,
I cannot believe I was able to find a Ultron with M42 mount in very good conditions for just 300 Euros.
Today I received and took it for a work in the wood near my house. Sharing some pictures with you.
To me it looks like an exceptional lens, what is your view?

Is this the same lens that is very common in Rollei QBM mount? _________________ I don't care who designed it, who made it or what country it comes from - I just enjoy using it!

Ian I think he is referring to the Zeiss version like is found on the Icarex. Which was manufactured with both the Icarex bayonet and also in the m42. There were (and are) other lenses named Ultron (I think Cosina Voigtlander ended up with the name) subsequently manufactured but that series designed by Tronnier with the concave front element are iconic. There was a discussion recently on here about the various iterations. The Rollei are labelled Color-Ultron which,if I recall correctly, is a Planar copy. _________________ photos are moments frozen in time |

Yes, the Icarex version comes in BM and M42, I've very rarely seen any of the M42 Icarex lenses for sale and not many of the BM ones either. I have the 3.4/35 and 4/135 in BM and quite like them, very sharp but low to medium contrast. This Ultron looks pretty good though. _________________ I don't care who designed it, who made it or what country it comes from - I just enjoy using it! |

Looking at the scheme , it is more a descendant of the Tronnier design . The front element was then very slightly convexe. It was a Planar when marketed under Zeiss and then Rollei name and Ultron under Voigtländer name which is coherent. |

Yes, this the Zeiss Ultron then came the Zeiss-Rollei Planar ( Voigt Color Ultron) which I was talking about . |

Production time was 1968-1972. For more precise information you have to check the serial number against the Zeiss records or contact Zeiss directly: https://www.zeiss.com/corporate/int/website/forms/inquiry.html
Catalog price 1971 was DM 238,50 for the M42 version and DM 279,- for the BM version. _________________ Thomas Bernardy
