The difference a good lens hood can make to IQ is often overlooked and few hoods that are supplied with lenses are adequate for the job.
A few years ago I found some A4 sheets of matt black plastic card which was being sold as dividers for filing cabinets.
I always carry a few cut sheets of this ‘Card’ in my bag and simply roll it and fit it inside the lenses hood, it naturally springs out and thus gives a great extended hood.
I also use the card for lighting flags on my flash units.
