I have found a Helios-81n and a Kaleinar-5n that do not have the usual M42, but what it looks like a Nikon mount. Does anyone have experience with them? Can these lenses be used with an adapter on a non Nikon camera without any focusing issues?

they are standard AI nikon lens. these made for kiev 17-19 camera and they have very good built quality. you can use them on your camera with simple nikon adapter and infinity should be OK.

Check this ebay page dedicated to the KP AN adapter: http://www.ebay.com/itm/KP-A-N-Adapter-Mount-A-Lens-to-Nikon-F-Mount-Camera-Jupiter-37A-11A-Tair-3A-3S/172546912063?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D41376%26meid%3Da852ff624a054932810ef37886d9f2dd%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D6%26mehot%3Dlo%26sd%3D391132518317

It shows a list of lenses (those with A or N in their name), who can be adapted on Nikon as AI lenses. Changing the adapter is very easy, I have done it for the Tair and Jupiter lenses.

These lenses have already a Nikon F mount, this is what the N designation stands for. You can use them on any digital Nikon SLR without adapters and pro / pro-summer bodies with metering. In entry level Nikon DSLRs you will have no metering at all.

I consider Arsenal lenses (so soviet Nikon mount lenses) to have the worst build quality of the entire union. But I guess I had bad experiences.
It's true that all the "N" lens has this mount, but also the Helios-81M is in Nikon mount.

What about optical quality in comparison with other Soviet lenses?

Optical quality is as good as other. I talked here only about build quality.
