My new/old AI-P 500/4 ED IF lens arrived today and I made some wide open test shots, no tripod but I rested it on fence posts.

It's a gorgeous thing. Even the case is impressive LOL
We will see if I can learn to use it _________________ Making MFlenses safe for the letter *L* |

Nice lens indeed. Unfortunately not really travel friendly or pocket-able.
The problem with such monsters is (from my own experience) that the stay mostly at home for that reason and indoor shooting is not really recommended with such lenses.
However, looking forward to more pictures from this lens. Looks to be really capable to deliver excellent pictures.
Obviously I am already too old or at least too lazy to carry such things. Even my huge and heavy 300mm lens stays mostly at home. That's why I prefer the mirror ones which are certainly not as good and more complicated to use.
But better a compromise than nothing.... _________________ Thomas Bernardy

Very good lens indeed, I'd say. What impresses me most is the lack of CA.
Have you done anything to boost the contrast? If not, then that's also impressive. _________________ I don't care who designed it, who made it or what country it comes from - I just enjoy using it! |

Contrast-wise it's meant to be well....the best MF 500 ever LOL I don't know, I'm just learning it, but always with distance you loose contrast, and sharp light will act like a LR slider. I might not want much more contrast. Then you have to raise the shadows and with the sony files you get noise in LR with that move.
It's very tricky to use because the DOF is really thin
But I love the overall character, very sweet and often both the 300/2.8 EDIF and this one make very nice bokeh.

Very impressive, all the pictures are excellent. It's obviously a very good lens, and you're getting the best out of it. _________________ LENSES & CAMERAS FOR SALE.....

That to me is a dream of a Lens! To be able to get up close and personal like that, and with such quality is something to envy.
I can see you are going to have fun with that one. Although a few trips to the gym might help! |
