I want a good telezoom, and which will not be better, Pentax 70-210 f / 4 or 1 Vivitar series f / 3.5.?

I suggest you try NikKor E 70-210mm f/4.0.

I would follow Attila's advice. Any TAMRON SP with a PK-Adpatall adapter will do a good job...
I got a TAMRON SP 70-210, 3.5-4 MACRO and it is a wonderful lens. Better if you can get the one with fixed aperture in all the range, but this one is not expensive.
It works fine in my K10D.
You can see it mounted on my previous K100D Super in this thread:

The only problem with the Adaptalls is that K mounts and K-A mounts especially cost a good deal of money. Even lenses that have a K adaptall go higher than ones with some other adapter.

I converted Vivitar series 1 3,5/70-210 to EF mount and compare in 135 mm position with Pentax SMC Takumar 3,5/135, Carl Zeiss Jena MC Sonnar 3,5/135, Canon EF 2/135 L.
I know, it is not fair to compare zoom with prime lens..., but the result can be seen athttp://www.flickr.com/photos/29149282@N07/

I have the second Vivitar 70-210 S1. At first, I don't like it. Sold it. No I bought one, because I can make better mastering on pics, and missing that full of metal and glass. On 350D there was problem with the green colors. Now it can easily correct in Lightroom or PS. Very-very sharp lens, better with 2x then CZJ Sonnar 2.8/200! Quite good macro mode. My version is a Kiron made modell with M42 mount.

Tamron 19AH maybe better, I don't know, will try. But only the 19AH!!! Not the others! But that is not a cheap one.

By me, Kiron made Vivitar S1 70-210 is a very good zoom lens, good performer for that price.

I have Pentax A70-210/4 and I think that it isn't a bad choice at all. It has great coatings and it is sharp at every aperture.

There's also a macro mode at 70mm and the A-position helps the use of the lens with DSLR's.

Compared to some other lenses I have, the A70-210 is a little bit less sharp than the Tamron SP 80-200/2.8, but has better coatings. It is also a bit sharper than the DA50-200/4-5.6 and M75-150/4 I have.

Don't have any experience with Vivitars, but I've heard they are great too.

This could have been seen from your signature Smile.

Do you know how the 135/3.5 Takumar compares to the M135?

Ps. I'd do the same.

Well, from what I can see from those pictures, I think the Takumar outperform the others, especially on contrast. I'll probably be beaten with a stick soon enough for saying a Takumar outperform a Zeiss though Wink. Just hang tight. Very Happy

The only SMC Pentax-M lens that I have tried that I feel is better then the Super Takumar equal is the 200/4. I can't say that the 135 perform any better then the Super Tak.

Hmm. Best? Hard to say really. My favourites/most used on the K10D is 55/1.8 and 135/3.5.

But I have to say that the 50/1.4, 85/1.9/1.8 and 105/2.8 did not get their reputation by accident.

If you are eager to try Takumars out, get the 55/1.8 and 135/3.5. The 55/1.8 _often_ go on ebay for less then 20$. And the 135 often for less then 50$.

The 85 can sometime end at 200$

Is the Pentax A 70-210/4 with a rotating front element or not? I read on the internet about both variants.
How are Vivitar Series 1 and Kiron zoom lock, with rotating front element or not?
