Hi guys,
I've got a Tair-11A 135mm f/2.8, which has some beautiful characteristics; however when shooting recently I've been getting really frustrated by this strange, small, circular centre flare it seems to produce.
It's not even or pretty, and actually really distracting.
I saw it whilst filming some clips at my friend's Wedding, then did a flare test at home, and the results are posted here (frame grabs) -
Has anyone else experienced a similar effect? Is it inherent with that lens? Or do I just own a lemon copy? haha
Thanks,
Ewan

I would say pretty definitely that looks like a reflection off the sensor, due to the bright point light source in the image.
Polarising filter might help? but certainly adjust your position if you can so that bright point is out of image or at least isn't pretty much head on. _________________ pentax ME super (retired)

Thanks mate.
The point light was just to do a test and check what was going on.
But in the first 2 grabs, the same effect is present just from background lights that arent even that strong.
I shoot backlit lots for video, so this circle flare will be problematic.
I haven't seen it before though, so wondering if it's a lens make/model thing, or a lens copy thing?... |

Hi Ewan,
It's single coated, thus prone tae lens flare...and if ye point it straight at light sources (as yer 3 photos show)... then that's exactly what ye'll get... |

To answer your initial question : I don't think you have a bad copy. I've tried to reproduce your test with my almost new tair 11a and got similar result:
This is a great lens but it has it's flaws. In bright sunlight it is also prone to flare (badly) and loses contrast, but I still like it |

Hi mate,
Yeh I understand that, but there's pretty flare and pleasant flare - this is just a dirty orange dot in the centre of frame.
Doesn't introduce any character or style - just looks like something went wrong. |

Hi Lucca,
Thanks so much for the feedback - yes it looks like maybe this is just how that lens renders flare.
Good to know - I hate wondering if you've just been unlucky and picked up a rubbish copy haha.
Cheers |

It's a lens I haven't got, but a few flat rear element lenses that I've got do make similar flare spots by reflecting on the sensor. _________________ LENSES & CAMERAS FOR SALE.....
