One more time for the old question.
I have the Nikkor Ais 85/2.
Good portrait lens.
Medium contrast.
Not so sharp, but enought to eyes, hair and eyelashes, with something soft skin.
Nice specially in colors, very delicate colors. Nothing excessively vibrant.
Very, very low CA. From 5,6 I can´t see them.
Paceful.
Do you recomend the summicron non Apo 90/2?
It's very cheap now.
My sharp portrait lens is the Nikkor Ai 3,5/135.
Very good lens. |

Thank you, Attila.
I saw the lens and had it in my hands.
It's in good shape. No problem with it.
It's cheap because the economical situation here.
I don't see a good Elmarit R 90 since some, some years here. |

I'm sorry.
A lens in that shape, is always a shame.
The AA is excesive for me. I don't use the portrait short tele with the frequency to justify the cost.
My normal (and extensive use) lens is a 1979 Summicron R lens. Very, very good to my eyes.
I use the Nikon 3,5/135 to normal to long distance street portraits and 180/3,4 Apo Telyt for situations when longer distance is
welcome. But love the perspective of the 85/90 mm lenses. Use Nex 5 N and 6.
The people in Uruguay, Argentina and Brasil don´t like to be in pics so much. |

Yes, it was a shame to see it like that, it, and the Leica R 35/2 should have both been cleaned ASAP and they would have been like new, but they waited who know how long and then sold them for a tiny amount, I bought the Leica R 90/2 from 1972 for $40, and the R 35/2 from 1973 for $20, the 35/2 had a seized helicoid which I've now separated, I just have to get the rest apart, the 90/2 was a challenge, I had to sacrifice the built in hood, and drill out some set screws and remove the aperture mechanism, and replace it with a water-stop aperture disk which I sized slightly smaller than the aperture mechanism's opening, the optics are now 95% cleaned, I may go back in and clean them again.

Yes the AA is more expensive than most photographers can justify, but if you can justify it, go for it.

My pre-APO Summicron M 90 is one of my most loved lenses ever. But I also liked the R 2/90 which I had on loan for a while and my Nikkor 1.8/85 also constantly amazes me. _________________ Personal forum activity on pause every now and again (due to job obligations)!

Thank you Lucispictor, very much.
I had the first little M 90/2 (and sold the big and heavy M 90/2 with six elements made in canada).
I noted the pre apo cron M 90 with high contrast but not so sharp as the oldest big and heavy one. For my eyes, of course.
I think like you do, guess that the cron R 90 pre apo is a better lens than the 2/85 Nikkor.
I never had the cron R 90 before. I like it a lot. |

Yeah, this is what they say, that the non-Asph. version of the 2/90 is not as sharp as the Asph version.
But honestly, it's definitely sharp enough. Most other manufacturers would be happy if their lenses were as sharp.
For portraitures I don't need extreme sharpness anyway. _________________ Personal forum activity on pause every now and again (due to job obligations)!

during this photos I used adapter showing 1EV more so f/4 =2.5 etc.
This are also with AF converter (I've sold it and now have 2xTC)

Well done. Very good pics.
I can´t understand why some say that the Bokina is better than te Tamron.

Why go slow? The Samyang, Opteka, Rokinon, etc, etc, 85mm f/1.4 are very good for the price and better bokeh IMO than Nikon's 85mm f/1.4. The out of focus highlights at the edges are round instead of oval so you don't get that sea-sickness inducing feeling of motion looking at the shots. |

Thank you, RichA.
I don't need F/1,4 in the 75/105 mm range. I don't use it. I use more F/3,5-4. Minimal DOF that I like to have in the pics.
With the 135/3,5 lens (I have the nikkor AI, great lens, btw), Wide open you have very thin dof. I don´t need more.
The OOF highlights no matter to me. I take almost all my pics in b&w in the street. Anyways, the backgrounds are that for me,
backgrounds. I understand what do you say, and I appreciate your words and interest and time. |

Mamiya is known by the excellent normals lenses they made in 35 mm format and medium format too.
Some people said, in the past, that the SX 55/1,8 Mamiya lens was one of the best in that segment.
And the 80 mm lenses for the 645 are really good. |
