I acquired this lens in mint condition some time back and did a series of pictures while trying it out. Attila made mention of the poor aperture arrangement with this lens and the high failure rate. While I thought the stop down button was weird and awkward, I bragged about the aperture working flawlessly. Not long after the diaphragm stopped opening fully. Only last week did I open the lens and reset it to fully open. The problem seemed to be with the aperture ring and not the internal leaves. Instead of messing with it and risking it becoming one of many lenses I couldn't get back together, I just disabled the aperture stop down and now use it only wide open. Honestly, I would use it that way most times anyway.
The few images I had taken did impress me as being very sharp. Some of the wide open shots really surprised me. I later did a test of three 100mm lenses I have, not including this one, and was surprised to find the order of sharpness different from what I expected. The Kalejnar was the sharpest. I knew it was sharp, but my perception was that the Topcor might be sharper. I did think the Meyer pre-set had the better bokeh. I will at some point do another similar test and include this later Meyer. I suspect it will compete with the Kalejnar.
Here are two shots from the weekend, wide open of course. The first is just to show off my manual focusing skills

I notice that the sharpness does not display well unless you click to the larger image. I've noticed this before, so it must be the compression used by MFL when displaying the web image. _________________ Regards,

Well, I'm sure you can do even better. Next time try to focus on the bee's eyes! |

You are, of course, correct. It was an amateurish mistake. _________________ Regards,
