Hi for everybody.

anyone knows what the IQ of the Nikon 105/4 AI macro lens?

I can't find some reviews of the lens and it should be very good, Isn't it?

I have one and like it very much for macro work. I haven't really tried it for general photography. It's sharp and contrasty, the 1:1 adapter is fairly easy to find, and not hugely expensive. The focus direction is nice if you are used to Nikon lenses (which are opposite of Canon). Here's a sample from a few days ago. I apologize for the poor lighting - I was just testing some strobes. Full frame followed by 100% crop. Small amount of Clarity added in PP.

Hi papasito...the 105/4 AI Micro was optimized for up to 1:2 magnification. You can push it to 1:1 using a 52mm extension like Nikon's PN-11. The AIS version is almost identical, except it has a locking screw to keep the focus fixed when used vertically. Some later AI lenses have the locking screw as well (I have one of these).

Thanks Ray, that perfectly confirms my own, subjective findings. It is an excellent performer at a very decent price.
It clearly shows that it was developed based on early chip makes lenses with very high resolution and honors it ancestry very well! I had the later version with lock screw and my preferred aperture setting found by experiments was f8. I still think about it whenever I use my UV-Nikkor 4.5/105mm.
