It would be better go for the A7RII if you want to know who is the best. Wink

Not really, there is much more to a lens than just the resolution.

I think these lenses are all sharp enough and that they should all outresolve the A7S. The A7RII would be great and those small differences in sharpness would be easy to demonstrate. But I tend to agree with Ian, especially when it comes to a ff camera there are many factors to consider such as vignetting, distorsion, colour and micro-contrast.

But yes, I would choose the A7RII over the A7S if it wasn't for the 2000 euro price difference.

I look forward to seeing the results. Only one of them I have is the Hexanon 3.5/28 and it's imho, superb (exact same version as yours).

It's much easier to find a great 35 than a great 28, in my experience. Best I have are the Hexanon 3.5/28, Minolta Rokkor-SG 3.5/28, Mamiya SX 2.8/28, Minolta AF 2.8/28 and X-Fujinon 3.5/28.

I would think that the Hexanon 1.8/28 and the Fujinon 1.9/28 play an important role in the challenge.

Envious collection of great 28s! Only missing one I can think of is the Pentax K 28 f/3.5.

I only have the Hexanon 28 f/3.5 from your group. I also think it's a superb 28mm.

Also missing is the Contax Hollywood and the 28/2.8 Distagon

The above two posts suggest to me that one very important one missing is the Pentax K 28/2 "Distagon"/"Hollywood".

Also, I have been finding that I like the Vivitar (Komine) 28/2 Close Focus better than the VS1 (Tokina) 28/1.9.

You are missing shift 28: Pentax shift 28/3.5 and nikon PC 28/3.5.

The Biogon will give color shift with A7r.
Distagon 28/2 and Pentax K 28/2 both have similar rending.

Distagon 28/2 has the size of a 100mm lens, while Distagon 28/2.8 is relatively small.

The G Biogon does indeed gice colour cast on both the A7r and A7ii, and corners aren't great on the A7r. The C/Y Distagon (f2.Cool was better: less colour cast and better corners.

I guess this is a rangefinder v SLR performance issue.

As mentioned, the A7rII might be best since the sensor performance has be upgraded to handle RF lens performance.

The K 28/2 is also quite large -- in fact it's both longer and heavier than the separate Pentax K 120/2.8 and Pentax M 120/2.8 lenses (although all three lenses and many others have the same diameter).

Interesting story about the Pentax: http://www.eoshd.com/2013/07/60-pentax-lens-thats-actually-a-800-zeiss-by-designer-of-stanley-kubricks-nasa-glass/

I'll be very interested to see which is the best Smile

Real world, the FE 28/2 is not very expensive and will out-perform any film 28 on the A7s or any A7, though it is not at the level of the 25/2 Batis.

If you mod the sensor, then these 28s would do very very well on the A7s.mod

Regardless, with the stock A7s all should look very good in the center of the image, and edges may come in equidistant to the center by f/8

If you really want to see, shoot a long infinity landscape from a hill and make sure you have at least one detailed and distant corner. Smile

60-200$ sounds too cheap for pentax k 28/2. I hunted this lens for years, never seen this price. perhaps just a lucky bargain.

I bet a Schneider Super-Cinelux 2/28 would give the Hollywood Distagon a run for it's money. The Cinelux can be had for 60 bucks. I don't have one but I do have a 2/30 Super Cinelux, it's amazing.

Yeah -- I never could figure where the "$60" came from (in an article from 2013). Perhaps it's the original "street" price from the late 1970's (?).

In any event, the current price for an excellent copy is well over an order of magnitude greater than that.

There is one "Pentax 28 F2 SMC K RARE ZEISS Collaboration Lens" on eBay right now - http://www.ebay.com/itm/-/131650886814 - that has a BIN price of $425, and it's not only, in the words of the seller, "a shooter's lens" (or, as one member of the Pentax Forums descriptively put it, "Looks like it was ridden hard and put away wet"), it's also been sadly crippled to use on FF Canon bodies (having had its aperture lever rudely ground off) -- and you get all that for your $425.

I'm adding lens data to my first post.
