I think I got this lens for a good price £135? anyway its a lot more than I normally spend on legacy lenses so was a bit apprehensive about how it would perform knowing its not the best of the 50ish f1.2s.

Anyway took it out today and it was a little tricky to use wide open but not as bad as I thought it was going to be. I stuck the Raynox DCR 150 on for some of the shots to get a little closer and they work well together I think. It does this sort of thing well however some of my other lenses are just as good so not sure if I'll hang on to it for long, I'll give it couple of months and see how we get on together

Looks great Like 1 small

Picture 6 with the ironwork has busier bokeh than I would like, but it still looks a great performer.

If it's as good as your other lenses stopped down, it may be the one to keep, as I doubt the others will be a good @ f1.2 Wink
I find it's nice to have a few lenses that have a different rendering, you don't need 100+ lenses like some of us on the site, a few extra lenses won't hurt you, and good fast glass will always hold it's value.
Have you tried a series of bokeh test shots that gradually stop down? Because the Rokkor 58/1.2 is busy WO, but it also becomes smoother @ f2.

I thought exactly the same. Must be a good copy.

Nice photos and they show a good use for this type of lens.
How did you get so close on some of the photos?
Would I be able to get very similar results with an f1.4 lens?
They would be more in the reach of my budget.

It's the f16 version and not the f22, not sure if that has any bearing on quality?

For the close up shots I stuck a raynox dcr 150 dioptre on. It's one of my best purchases turns any lens into a close focus one with no degradation in IQ (that I can see).

Took this with an OM Zuiko 50mm f1.8 and the raynox, https://flic.kr/p/eouoMo

It works well with my 1.4s also

I'm glad you both said this... I had the same feeling... it looks a lot more like the Fuji/Porst.

How about a picture of the lens?

Guys..............now either 1 of 2 things have happened here, either I embarrassingly misidentified my porst or I was actually testing if you could tell the difference between the 55 and 50mm porst from photo samples alone.

Let's just say you passed the test!!!! Well done for noticing it was actually the 50mm f1.2.........................hopefully we can just leave it at that..........

Like 1 small and good for you, the 50/1.2 is the better lens of the two. And it shines @ f2

I did have a couple of leaf shots stopped down to f8 that were some of the sharpest shots I've seen from any of my lenses, including 3 macros. Im quite pleased it's actually the 50mm as you say.

I take it £135 is a good price for such a lens?

It was a good price but the Porst is somewhat unknown and good deals are much more common than with the X-Fujinon 50/1.2 which is the same lens. You will never loose money on that lens if you decide to sell it on. I don't know exactly but 200-300 euro should be a fair value.
