I never found a really exciting camera gear shop in Singapore (for old lenses) which would be comparable to the nice second hand shops in Hong Kong, although I was there quite often in my previous life for conferences as well.
But maybe I just didn't find them. Wink
Anyway, have a nice trip and leave your drugs at home. Smile

You may try Peninsula Plaza, which is a place for hang out many local photographers since there are some photography equipment shops on first floor.
I am not sure about the prices though.

You check on the shops name to find out the business hours.

If you are into buying used stuffs, try local photography forums and make appointment to meet a seller when you are here.

So I guess it does not change much then, unless you want to try Sungei Road flea market.

You will never know what you will get there, but there is one seller which has box after box of camera junks.
However, only on Sunday afternoon he unloads most of the camera bodies and lenses.

On the last agenda item of your conference (date and place of the next meeting) just vote for Hong Kong. Wink
I always enjoyed those second hand camera shops in Kowloon very much.

However, although there are really nice shops in Tokyo as well I am definitely enjoying Hong Kong much more. Communication is also much easier in Hong Kong for strangers like us.
BTW, I also like the Chinese food much more, the Japanese kitchen is sometimes too strange for me. Wink

I was in Singapore recently and found quite a few good used camera shops in Peninsula and a couple other buildings near there. There are a few scattered elsewhere but mostly concentrated near there. I tried the flea markets but had much less luck.

Was in Hong Kong same trip and found many stores but the Singapore shops were more to my liking. Pricing seemed WAY better in Singapore for used stuff.

The pricing issue is quite interesting. Used always to be the other way round some years ago.
Rest is obviously also a matter of taste and personal preferences and a matter of negotiations.
Have you been in Kowloon where all this shops are located one next to another one where you also can buy used old (and sometimes also very expensive and rare) watches besides the used camera gear?
I never found something really comparable in Singapore.

Yeah, I was on Kowloon mainland side. Pricing was all way above eBay levels. The shops in Singapore are interspersed with other types, and many are similar to those in HK, but there are some that are kind of halfway between that level and street vendors. These are the ones I liked most. I like it when I see boxes of bodies and lenses on counters! Fun stuff.

Huge discounts are manageable.

However, as already stated, also a matter of taste and what you are looking for.

2years since I was last in Singapore. The second-hand places I found were more expensive than European camera shows, and did not have a large selection of European equipment. My sampling, however was haphazard and brief since other activities had higher priority.
