There are two versions of this lens. The first and less common model was supplied with the Periflex III camera and came in a simple helical mount with no click stops on the iris control. It has, from what I remember, five elements. The mount is plain aluminium with leathercloth on the focusing mount. The later version sold with the Periflex IIIb and Gold Star models has a completely different mounting in shiny black with polished chrome scalloped control rings.
If you want to learn more, there's a book on the history of Periflex cameras and their maker - Google 'Corfield Periflex book' to find it.
Ian is correct in saying Enna made the later lenses. There was some issue over Corfield infringing one or other Enna patents - I can't recall the details but the book will tell you, I always thought the original 1.9/50 had been designed by the Wray company of Bromley, England, following the pattern of their 50/2 lens for the Wrayflex SLR, but I might be wrong about that.
Both lenses will be good if in clean condition, make no mistake about that. I suppose, though, the question is how good you want it be. The original is really by far the more interesting of the two and if you can buy one at a reasonable price I'd encourage you to get it. Even if it doesn't please you it's unusual enough to be re-sold easily. _________________ Stephen
