Not bad for a $70 lens. Nice corner to corner sharpness!

Hey, Ash - Nice work.

Can I ask if you had to stop down far to get good corner sharpness?

To see some figures go to Erphotoreview. FD 24mm and A7 are tested together.

Very interesting, particularly the link to the OM 24/2.8.

Yes, the new FD 2.8/24mm is on par with the (equally "new") Minolta MD-III 2.8/24mm. The older Minolta MC-X/MD-I/MD-II 2.8/24mm does NOT perform as well as the nFD 2.8/24 or the MD-III 2.8/24mm (all tests were run on the Sony A7II 24MP FF camera)

On A7, my FDn 24 2.8 performs very well.
I was very much disappointed with the MC 24 2.8 . My sample is never sharp in the corners. I can only recommend this lens for cropped sensors.
I am thinkibg of the MD III . Does the floating element bring an advantage in comparison with the traditonal FDn design?

All Minolta 2.8/24mm lenses do have floating elements, and so do the Canon new FD 2.8/24mm. They increase performance at small distances, and i would expect both the MD-III and the new FD to perform similarly also at close distances (i have NOT tested them at close distances; this is simply my feeling).

I would go on with the new FD 2.8/28 and NOT change to the MD-III since both lenses do perform almost identically.

Thanks . I thought that the Canon did not have a floating element.
