I have only used one 24mm lens on the A7II, the Konica 2.8/24.

I like it but here are a few out of camera JPGs so you can see for yourself.

I did like almost all, Konica, Minolta, Olympus OM, Kiron , Vivitar, Nikkor I didn't like Tamron , mine was garbage Carl Zeiss Jena Flektogon 25mm f4 zebra! latest one damn good.

I test my copy of Minolta MD 24mm on A7. There is a bit field curve but nothing serious. The corners starts getting OK to good at F5.6. At F8 to F11 this lens should be fine for most scenes. Distortion and flare resistance is pretty good IMHO. I have a FD 24mm 2.8 waiting for test and I think it will perform similarly.

FD 24/2 has good corners. 24/2.8 is nice.
Rokkor MC 24/2.8
OM 24 is nice and small, has some vignetting, look for the multicoated version.
Contax 25
Konica 24
Yashica 24
Nikkor 24/2.8 AIS
Sigma super wide 24

Which version of the Konica 24mm do you use? Looks fantastic! My Konica 24mm EE F16 edition is quite weak in the corners on APS-C.

My two picks are the Canon FDn 24/2.8 and Minolta New MD 24/2.8 (49mm filter thread)

I would say that one of the best 24mm on sony a7 is canon fdn 24 2.8. very nice sharpness for both landscape and portrait works. See few of my samples here:

This review confirms my finding:

I have tested recently a few vintage 24mm lenses at "infinity" distance, using 24MP FF sony A7II:

Canon newFD 2.8/24mm
Minolta MD-I 2.8/24mm
Minolta MD-III 2.8/24mm
Nikkor AiS 2.8/24mm
Zeiss C/Y 2.8/25mm

http://artaphot.ch/systemuebergreifend/objektive/450-24mm

The MD-III seems to be the best of the bunch, the nFD 2.8/24mm nearly as good. The C/Y 2.8/25mm has quite a lot of field curvature, otherwise it is quite good as well, and so is the Nikkor AiS 2.8/24mm. The Minolta Rokkor 2.8/24mm is the oldest of the lenses mentioned here, and it has most corner problems.

If you neglect the extreme corners, all lenses here have a similar performance on 24MP FF.

This one can be hard to find: Canon nFD 24/2, which some felt was the best Canon F mount lens on film, bar none.

nFD 24/2 on A7.mod (Kolari)

I first bought this lens for nex-5, but despite incredible reputation, I did not love it on that camera, and sold it. Another copy fell into my lap and I tired it both on A7r and A7, where it also was troubled. However once I had the 1.9mm cover glass stripped and replaced with gen 1 1mm cover glass on the A7 I noticed it again on my shelf. The results are as you see Smile

Interesting feedbacks thank you. I had a bad experience with a Rokkor MC which the same lens as the MDI.

In my MC copy, the extreme corner is not so good but the lens is pretty decent IMHO. Here is an photo taken with A7(click to enlarge).

24/2.8 Minolta lenses are probably not the best as far as corner performance on the A7/R,but from f8 this problem is mostly gone.

A7+MC W.Rokkor SI,55mm (the first) at f11
http://www.zeissimages.com/gallery/951/U951I1414833392.SEQ.4.jpg

A7+MC W.Rokkor (late MC,not the first MC SI-with the same coatings like the MD1),55mm at f11
http://www.zeissimages.com/gallery/951/U951I1413734951.SEQ.3.jpg

A7+MD1 W.Rokkor 24/2.8,55mm at f8
http://www.zeissimages.com/gallery/951/U951I1417295420.SEQ.2.jpg

A7+MD3,"plain" Minolta 24/2.8,49mm at f8
http://www.zeissimages.com/gallery/951/U951I1420536853.SEQ.0.jpg

I would say, that all of them are very good and mostly equal one the A7/R.The SI has weakest coatings and colours/contrast,whereas the plain MD has the most even sharpness across the frame at the cost of lower center resolution compared to the rest.To me the MD1 and last MC have an edge versus the others.

I use many diffrent 24/2.8 legacy lenses on the A7/R.

My recommendations are as follows:

Canon nFD 24/2.8,SSC 24/2.8,nFD 24/2.0

Olympus OM Zuiko 24/2.8 and 24/2.0

Zeiss Distagon C/Y 25/2.8 and ZF 25/2.8

Minolta MD - all 24/2.8 Rokkors and plain MD

Yashica ML 24/2.8

Konica Hexanon AR 24/2.8

Nikkor 24/2.8 AI/S

Pentax K 24/2.8

Canon nFD 24/2.8 is probably the best choice if you balance out IQ,size, weight, availability and price, but the rest is also very intedresting.

The Canon FD 2.8/24 is a price-performance-ratio gem! Great value!

Better 24mils are much more expensive.

I would have said sigma superwideII 24mm 2.8 but then i got the Canon FD 24mm 2.8.
Just beautiful!

I've messed around with a few 24s this year. I would rank them as follows:

2. Olympus OM 24/2.8
3. Canon FD 24/2.8 (second copy)
4. Zeiss C/Y 25/2.8 MM
5. Sigma 24/2.8 Super-Wide II
5. Tokina RMC 24/2.8
6. Canon FD 24/2.8 (first copy)

I like the Oly a lot for sharpness but sold it because I just don't like the colour rendition compared to Zeiss. I read great things about the FD 24/2.8 and so got one to try against the Oly; On the first copy it was no competition the canon was awful. So bad was the canon i came to the conclusion that it was a lemon and I've been lucky enough to snag another copy with an A1 for £30 Smile and the first impressions are very good. So beware copy variation.

And the No 1? I have the Canon TS-E24L II and while I know it's unfair on the others to compare them, I do have this lens and it is stunning.

Sigma 24/2.8 Super Wide II is a very good lens either.I had bad luck with all my copies (the first fungused, the second with advanced separation and the third heavily decentered). However,my second copy with separation did pretty good on the NEX5N.I had not seen separation outcomes untill I started using it on the FF.

I'm still waiting for a decent one though.

I only kept 3 24mms - Yashica ML 2.8/24, Konica Hexanon 2.8/24 and Nikkor-SC 2.8/24. For me, those 3 outclass the Tokina/Hoya, Sigma and Ensinor 24s (which are all good lenses in their own right). I'd be hppy with any of the 3 to use, but the Hexanon is my favourite as it has quite a lot of 3D pop.

Ian, which version of the Hexanon do you have?

PostPosted: Mon Dec 28, 2015 6:07 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

That is a good question, I'll have to dig it out to be sure, but I think it's a late version with rubber grip.

The latest small f22 AE version was made by Tokina.
