Hello!

I am trying to find some list/article etc about those "gem" lenses from any brand at different focal lengths.
I have been shooting exclusively Canon FD as I had a Lens Turbo 2 for the FD mount on my NEX-6 but as I now have a Sony A7ii, I can get away buying a cheap adapter for any brand so a whole new world opened to me.
I used to have Rokkor lenses before but IMO, the FD ones were better at least to my eyes so not so sure I will look into Minoltas but of course I didn't try them all and there are many more out there.
One thing I have yet to see is a legacy lens that is very sharp all across at 24mm or wider. Then again, could have also been an issue with my LT2 adapter.
Any recommendations, let me know please!

If you ask 10 different people you will get 12 different recommendations. Wink

Especially when you intend to use any lens in combination with an optical adapter like the "Lens Turbo" it's very hard to recommend anything as a lens may turn out to be good without and bad with such an adapter. Especially wide angles may develop "special effects" on different adapters.

Most of the folks here use just the lens without any additional glass which potentially is decreasing the optical quality of the lens.

Particulary for ultra wides below 24mm focus length there is rather a limited supply as they are strongly sought by crop sensor camera user. Actually it will also depend on your preferences and finally on your budget.

So at least you should give us a little bit more information what you are aiming to achieve and where your budgetary intentions are.

If you browse eg pentax forums you will find numerous threads on this with lots of proffered opinions. But in a (very generalised) nutshell: primes rather than zooms; OEM/ 3rd party manufacturers (tamron, sigma...) rather than anonymous reseller brands (paragon, optomax etc etc etc etc )

I pay attention to what others have reported here, especially if they've posted images as examples. But I do a lot of my own testing and reach my own conclusions based on my own empirical data.

Now that you own an a7ii and especially if you still own a sizable collection of Canon FD lenses, I would encourage you to shoot some test photos and reach your own conclusions. Plus, sharing them here would be a big plus, because then others here can benefit from your results.

I have an FD 24mm f/2.8 SSC and I have found it to be quite sharp all the way to the corners, using it on my 35mm Canon cameras. If you own one, I, for one, would be interested in seeing your results.

I actually had the 24mm before but I sold it when I found the corner issues with the Lens Turbo 2 but even with APS-C without the LT2 I found the corners to be too ugly. Center was very sharp though and rendering was very nice too.
Seeing how much more I like the FD 35mm F2 now with my A7ii compared to the NEX-6, I feel tempted to try the FD 24mm F2.8 again indeed.
Although that test posted by the other user got me thinking about the Olympus too.

For Japanese lenses, first party lenses are likely the best (Canon, Nikon, Pentax, Minolta, Konica, Contax/Yashica etc.) followed by the biggest third party makers(Tamron, Sigma, Tokina etc.).
