Much appreciated Gerald..I have accumulated so many lenses etc. in past 60 years that I keep coming to items I had forgotten and in many cases not ever mounted but are now coming to light since I ventured into Sony & Olympus mirrorless. _________________ Do not trust Atoms....they make up everything. |

From what I have read, this lens is not common. Perhaps not so many were manufactured.
Reports from users suggest that it was well made, of sophisticated design and quite good optically.
I would be interested in your experiences with it Kryss, when you put it through its paces.

I think this is the first, or one of the first wide-angle zoom lens from Canon, so it is historically interesting. It cost a fortune when new, £460, enough money to buy ten new CZJ Flektogon 35mm F2.4, for example. Due to the high price, the Canon must have sold few units. Not surprisingly, this lens is not well known today. _________________ If raindrops were perfect lenses, the rainbow did not exist. |

Thanks again Gerald,I also have the Tamron SP 24-48mm F3.5 which I use frequently and only came across the Canon when cleaning up my hoard so maybe I can sell it for enough to buy a Trioplan 100mm f2.8. _________________ Do not trust Atoms....they make up everything. |

I checked on the yen to dollar conversion rate in 1976 and it was right at 300 to 1. So that means the list price on this lens would have been $335. In 1976 dollars, that's still a hefty sum. Easily a good week's take home wages for most folks.
I concluded the same -- because it was an expensive lens, I suspect that Canon didn't sell many. According to their museum site, this was Canon's 2nd wide-angle zoom (first was the 35-70 f/2.8-3.5 SSC), and it had performance rivaling primes of its day. I owned the 35-70 SSC for a while and if this 28-50 is at all similar, it's a very well built optic. _________________ Michael
