Meyer Optik Gorlitz Primotar 135mm F3.5 m42 Mount

I purchased a Meyer Optik Gorlitz Primotar 135mm F3.5 M42 mount for a lens with it's know characteristics. Just got it today.

All Shots are handheld.

Perhaps slightly out of focus, but background shows more.







Results. What I expected. Not my sharpest lens wide open, but has nice soap bubbles. Sharp enough when you nail focus. Hard to focus hand held on mirrorless. WAY WAY to much shake, much better on my 5D. I expect better on tripod.

I feel the shots look better on the 5D, not sure if it's because of the viewfinder and grip or because of the FF.

I think I've holded five Primotars in my nasty hands during winter time - three silvers and two or possibly three blacks. Some of them even came from USA. Finally kept one M42 silver (which was indeed very nice looking), sold rest of them.

Expect worst Trioplan 100 in all aspects.

Went with on butterflies couple of times, didn't achive anything spectacular yet. According to Flickr the lens draws very nicely, kind of in a Monet way, in the right hands. I am going to explore the lens more when the right time occurs. For me, Primotars are a big question yet.

You should be able to grab some cool lenses easily in your market, including silver Primotar 135, Telemegor 400 (probably poor performer though), Tessar 80, Culminar 135, Piesker Picon/Votar/whatever lenses and some others. They just occur on US Ebay much more frequently, some of those more or less to be missing in my country.

It's all historical, I presume. In my country, it's so easy to find Helios, Jupiter or Tair instead

Vroger: I wouldn't choose this lens for distance shots, but if you stop it down some it will do well. I think you'll get the better bokeh effects when selecting the right angles to isolate the subject. The swing shots better this way than the ones where you pointed down and the background was close or busy. And you're right, if you nail the focus, it can be reasonably sharp.

There's on in my collection as well. Like said: stop it down and you'll be surprised! Another tip: get yourself another focussing screen for the 5D, i did, one of the best investments if you like to use MF lenses!

Yes, I need to work on best use cases. Seems good for kids as subjects. ha. I think for flowers I'll need tubes as it's has a rather far min focus distance.
