Hi Folks,
We have been quietly learning to CLA/Service vintage optics. Now that we are getting good at it we have started uploading photos of each lens we restore to Flikr including a fully disassembled photo that shows every component down to the last screw. Since we have all these photos we figured we would share them with the community in case someone loses a few screws and needs to double check. Many of the lenses are fairly rare and things like service manuals or parts lists are not readily available.
https://www.flickr.com/photos/retrooptical/albums
More will be added on a regular basis. We have serviced a lot more lenses than listed but have started to take the fully disassembled photos and will do so for all lenses we service going forward.
If you are interested in our glass pay us a visit on eBay, our user name is Retrooptical - we also offer lens service/CLA/Repair up to and including re-cementing separated optical elements.
Anyway hope this is helpful to some folks out there - its meant to be informational, however as any good small business person knows it never hurts to give yourself a modest plug as well.

We will be posting on our methods as we find the time to put the documentation together. This will include step by step instructions for things like re-cementing optical elements, why you should ultrasonically clean parts, differences in types of grease, etc.
Folks who want professional service want professional service. Everyone else with DIY confidence/skills will be able to leverage our material for free.

We should add between 3-6 lenses a week in fits and spurts since it is a part time gig for us at the moment. Hoping to add some resolution/distortion/mtf testing into the mix but that workflow will take quite some time to get right. Also its time consuming so may have to wait until we can grow into a full time outfit.
We welcome any suggestions folks might have, esp on additional types of photos that would be useful, as long as its not going to add a ton of effort to our workflow. _________________ Retro Optical

Anyone interested in contacting us:
Email: retrooptical@gmail.com
Ebay: http://www.ebay.com/usr/retro_optical
We don't have a website setup yet but are working on it and hope to have one launched by the end of the summer. If you are interested in having your lens serviced please send us an email, we can provide rough pricing however each lens requires a different amount of work, and a final estimate will not be available until we receive your optic for inspection.
Will post a follow up with a description of our lens grading system and servicing process.
Thanks for your interest!

Thank you all for the compliments, much appreciated.
We are currently putting together rather detailed DIY tutorial for CLA of your basic 50mm prime. The intent is to cover basic tools techniques and a few recommendations for the average JOE to feel confident in tackling dust or fungus removal and re lubrication.
There are a lot of tricks of the trade, we intend to share a few that we have learned. _________________ Retro Optical

Yes at the moment we are posting our disassembled photos so that folks have a component breakdown somewhat similar to an exploded parts diagram, which are hard to find for the pre-60s glass in a lot of cases. All of the lenses in our Flikr account are ones that we have fully serviced for customers or for sale on our eBay store. We will continue to keep adding lenses as we service them.
At the moment we are two guys doing this in our spare time so we may have to trickle out our repair tutorials over time.
A short list of the tutorials we wanted to go over at some point (subject to change):
1. Lens Service (CLA) - Basic tear-down and service of 50mm prime lens (likely a cheaper >$100 example typical of DIY lens repair)
2. Lens External Restoration - Examples include repainting faded/chipped focus, DoF, aperture, and other markings, touching up barrel paint, re-anodizing, re-chroming, etc. (Some of these will be references to external suppliers of things like anodizing or re-chroming which is too finicky and/or toxic for most DIYers)
3. Optical Re-cementing - How to properly separate, clean, cement, align, and cure optical blocks using modern UV cure optical adhesive. We do not use, nor will cover, balsam based adhesives because they are not as chemically or mechanically stable as our UV optical adhesive (Norland 61 - https://www.norlandprod.com/adhesives/noa%2061.html).
We are open to/soliciting requests for other topics to cover. We have spit-balled things like how to hand lap damaged helicals, replace foam in a film body, strip multi/single coating, etc. Please feel free to chime in if there is something you would like us to cover.
Thanks!

We upload all lenses we service to Flikr with the most recent and all future ones including a fully disassembled shot including all components, basically the functional equivalent of an exploded diagram.
