In a 1956 Novoflex pricelist several lenses of companies like Steinheil and Schneider are listed. For the use on a Novoflex bellows Schneider-Kreuznach had a series of Xenar lenses available, like the 105mm, 135mm, 150mm and 180mm. Those were available in 1956 in Leica thread mount, with the exception of the 105mm. Novoflex had a Noflexar 3.5/105mm for LTM in the list. Would anyone know which company designed and produced this Noflexar lens?

Schacht made the Noflexar 3.5/105mm for use in bellows . They have either a "R"(in black lens) or a diamond mark (in chrome lens) on the front name ring. However, we will need a photo of the LTM version to confirm the maker. _________________ The best lens is the one you have with you.

Novoflex confirmed to me that it was indeed Schacht that made the Noflexar 105mm for Novoflex. I don't own this lens, but I have some Schneider Xenar lenses from that period and it made me curious. Thanks!

I'm hoping some of you can provide more information on Novoflex and Noflexar lenses and the history of the company. I can't find much history on the internet except for something very brief by Camerapedia, but I question some of their information. They stated that Novoflex made cameras and lenses for Leica; I think maybe the other way around - Leica glass in some Noflexar lenses. There was this quote from a forum: "The quality of the 400mm is, I think, quite good, if it is the f:5.6 version (achromatic Lens from Leitz)."
I have seen many comments about the 400mm being a good, sharp lens, so am hoping it is true. I have just purchased one. _________________ Regards,

I think two things may be mixed up here: I have never heard of Leica glass being used in Noflexar lenses, but there are Leitz lens heads made for the Novoflex system, a 400mm f/6.8 and 560mm f/6.8 certainly. They are clearly labelled as being Leitz Telyt lenses. The only lens I know of made by Leitz and badged as something else is a Minolta 90mm f/4 for the M system, and only the first version of that lens. I don't claim that my knowledge on the subject is anywhere near perfect though, please show me wrong. Maybe an early version of the 12.5 and 25 mm Micro Rokkors was a rebadged Leitz Photar.
Anyway, which 400mm did you buy? There is a two element Noflexar 400mm f/5.6 and a three element Noflexar T 400mm f/5.6. The three element one is supposed to be an improvement over the two element one. |

I will have the T-Noflexar. I found this through Google - seems very good information. Speaks of the lens heads being made by Leica.

Interesting to read. But as I interpret it it says the same as I did - Leitz badged heads were made by Leitz, Novoflex badged heads were made by another party, in this case Agfa. |
