I was looking for a 300mm lens that was a decent performer and in my frugal price range. After researching a bit here, I put a bid on this and a Tair. Didn't get the Tair, but I am very impressed with this lens. I just took a couple of quick test shots handheld at 1/250. The birds are at 5.6. Nice colors and contrast, requiring almost no PP. The built in telescoping hood is very handy and I found the minimum focus distance of 1.7 meters is very workable. With a tripod, I think it would be super. Thanks for looking!

Very nice Mo, it looks like a very usable lens. Having 1.7 meters close focusing is excellent, most of my 300's are 2.5m, the old Soligor is a staggering 6m, which does make a huge difference in how useful a long lens is.

I have the tamron adaptamatic 300mm f5.6 which is supposed to be the same lens, but mine only focusses to 2.5m.

I like mine too!

I posted some more from this series on Pentax Forums.
