Where did you find one? It's a nice catch. You've got the box and all Smile
You're lens setup is pretty awesome...even without this gem.

Here's what it looks like with some family members with hoods:

(80-200/2.8+ 1.4x teleconverter, 300/5.6, 180/2.5, 90/2.5 + 2x teleconverter)

Nice find, apparently only 3000 of them were ever made. Crying or Very sad

Very nice! I want to see some samples.

One of these went through KEH recently for under $200 I think, but I had to pass on it since I just sprung for the 300/2.8.

That 80-200 is next on my wishlist (the other lenses mentioned in your photo I already have.

Well done Rense, I hope you didn't have to sell off the family to buy it.
Now how about some pics for us to drool over?

Fantastic! I lust for this lens, which I would prefer over an 180mm f/2.8 ED Nikkor.

Boy am I in trouble! Cool I didnt realise just how many Tamrons I definately must have and need Very Happy

I have on the way a 28-70 an 80-210 for peanuts and a 35-70 with mount and another 80-210 with mount. The first two have some fungus so I am going to have a go at cleaning them so not much to lose if I screw them up.

is it better than the 180 2.8 nikkor? the nikon is AF which is nice for tele. and i rarely hear anything bad about the 180 2.8

It's been a long time since the last time I tried a Nikon 180/2.8 but IIRC that lens does have a problem: the distance between the mount and the rear element is big, creating a "cave" that can be a repository for dust. If you shoot digital, that's a problem.

On the other hand, I remember the images created with that lens being super sharp.

Are you serious?
Is this Tamron much better than the nikkor ED?

I have several 180/2.8 (OM, nikkor ais ED, Leica-R), but never got the Tamron.

Well, if these figures are to be believed:

Okay, well, bear in mind first that I made the above comment almost five years ago. And while I'd still love to have the Tamron 180/2.5 LDIF, my position has modified somewhat.

You see, another Tamron I've been wanting for some time has been the 80-200/2.8 LD. At one point, when I was at adaptall-2.org and reading through the Modern Photography tests listed for the Tamron 180/2.5, comparing them to the Nikkor 180/2.8 ED, something struck me as seeming familiar. It wasn't until I paged over to look at the MP results for the 80-200/2.8 that I realized what it was. The Nikkor 180/2.8 ED's MP test results are almost identical to the Tamron 80-200/2.8's test results at 200mm. Well, I owned a Nikon 180/2.8 ED some years ago, and it was one of the sharpest, contrastiest lenses I've ever used. So, when I saw that the Tamron 80-200/2.8's resolution and contrast was on par with the Nikkor, I made up my mind at that point. The big Tamron zoom is not especially common, but it is much more common than the Tamron 180/2.5. I found one at KEH for a great price and bought it, and haven't looked back since. By the way, one thing about the zoom that neither the Tamron nor the Nikkor 180 has is a tripod mount. A big plus, IMO.

I've been very happy with my decision. Perhaps the only thing that the 180/2.5 has that I wish this zoom has is internal focusing. But I can get by with its focusing system just fine.

Thanks to Boris, we can see how closely the two 180s are, performance-wise. Splitting hairs, really. Now, compare those to this:

Again, splitting hairs, if you ask me. Not that I wouldn't still like to have one of the Tamron 180s one day. Because I still want one. Cool
