Hi all,
below you will find my first roll of film that was developed (by a lab)
http://alexpal.smugmug.com/ToShare/FilmInColor/n-sdqHB/
please have a look to see if you see anything weird.
These are scans with no post processing from the scanner
General comments:
-I was using the dof calculator that is printed on my two lenses to make sure that my shots have a very deep dof... They do not look like in sharp though...
-I was trying to use very fast shutter speeds but unfortunately I find my shots shaky with much blurred movement on the backgrounds
More specifically:
3. I am sure that this one has an aperture of 5.6 or 8 but the motorcyclists do not look in focus
http://alexpal.smugmug.com/ToShare/FilmInColor/n-sdqHB/i-bpRkPtx/A
4. same problem with the horses here: Aperture was 11 or 16
http://alexpal.smugmug.com/ToShare/FilmInColor/n-sdqHB/i-54zxrSP/A
5. same here aperture 16 and tried to get focus from 2 meters to infinity
6.also here I wanted to have very large depth of field.. the boy is out of focus
http://alexpal.smugmug.com/ToShare/FilmInColor/n-sdqHB/i-B2kd8qM/A
7.very weird out of focus scene...
http://alexpal.smugmug.com/ToShare/FilmInColor/n-sdqHB/i-rLQq3Nv/A
8. daughter out of focus
http://alexpal.smugmug.com/ToShare/FilmInColor/n-sdqHB/i-26nnCMx/A
9.here aperture was 16. bikers look out of focus
http://alexpal.smugmug.com/ToShare/FilmInColor/n-sdqHB/i-3hxgQKH/A
Why I am so bad?? Sad

Looks like typical results from a roll in that we all get a few shots out of focus at times and a few frames that need correcting for colour casts because of scanning or whatever. So I would say you have no problem. _________________ Canon A1, AV1, T70 & T90, EOS 300 and EOS300v, Chinon CE and CP-7M. well I use Photoshop, but there are plenty of programs that can adjust images. Talking about OOF:- I was getting quite a few shots OOF with my grandchildren moving around quite quickly, so I bought a Nikon film AF camera and even with that I couldn't count on 100% success rate _________________ Canon A1, AV1, T70 & T90, EOS 300 and EOS300v, Chinon CE and CP-7M. Hi thanks,
I think the hardest is what I should do with the skin tones... How do you find the "right" tone succesfully?

For the skin tones, try adding a little yellow in the highlights and reducing the red a little
I find this more pleasing. Auto color balance gave very cold bluish tones
You need to focus better, but then the machine may have a slight focus problem. Looking a the dust and crap on the prints, it would seem that the machine is badly maintained and the colour balance on the prints may be due to that too.
What film?
Depth of field is all about acceptable blur 2 metres to infinity is not going to be pin sharp from front to back. Sharp where you focused it and gradually becoming noticeably blurred. _________________ Hero in the 'messin-with-cameras-for-the-hell-of-it department'. Official. |

Well you have to have a decent monitor as if you correct on in it and post a jpg to someone else it could look as though it has a colour cast. As for skin tones it depends on the situation e.g. a shot of a person watching a sunset, well IMO it would be acceptable to have a slightly red cast on the face, but be careful of green as they would look ill, too much yellow and they would look like they have jaundice, and blue would make a face look cold.
So it's what pleases you (well and the subject if you know them) that's most important. _________________ Canon A1, AV1, T70 & T90, EOS 300 and EOS300v, Chinon CE and CP-7M. Hi all,
these dust sparkles come from my scanner.. as there are some small spots embedded in the glass.
Can it be something else?
A friend wrote me today
"I gave up photography for nearly a decade after I started getting prints back from the processor that were clearly off-focus, when they'd looked as crisp as could be through the VF. I wish I'd known earlier that I needed either reading glasses for an uncorrected VF, or a camera where I could dial in my optical prescription to be able to get good shots through the VF without wearing my reading glasses."
What does he mean apart that I am blind?

Some cameras you can dial in correction for the VF so you don't need to wear glasses. But DOF is your friend for mistakes in not getting the subject in focus. _________________ Canon A1, AV1, T70 & T90, EOS 300 and EOS300v, Chinon CE and CP-7M.
